Plant Manager

Job Description

The plant manager ensures a work environment that is safe, engaging and productive for all employees while also driving performance to achieve or exceed financial plans and strategic goals.

The plant manager has responsibility for the following:

  • Plant management including production, operational excellence, supply chain, programs management, HR, Finance and EHS.

  • Setting overall policies and procedures to ensure effective manufacturing/trading operations consistent with the Eaton Business System and company culture.

  • Leading the plant leadership team to develop plant strategy and tactics to achieve annual profit plan and long-term strategic plan.

  • Leading and implementing the Eaton Business System, especially in applying the tools and processes of Eaton Business System to deliver the business results.

  • Interfacing with the sales organization to ensure internal/external customer needs are met.

A successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Coordinate and directs through managers, all functions of facility operations, including but not limited to Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, SCM, OpEx, HR and Finance

  • Align operational objectives with the overall business objectives to ensure a strategy-focused workforce

  • Manage operating performance through the effective use of the Quality Operating System (QOS) process and structured problem solving

  • Direct and mentor the Van Wert leadership team in the performance of their respective roles and consistent with the Eaton Leadership model

  • Foster an environment which promotes Eaton’s goals, encourages continuous improvement, and builds customer relationships

  • Drive the compliance to the ethics policy and holds others accountable for ethical conduct

  • Develop, control, and critically review results of the operation in reference to planned objectives

  • Be accountable for the day-to-day decisions that directly impact the quality, efficiency, and profitability of the overall plant

  • Maintain a workforce of highly motivated employees with a morale that is conducive to remaining non-union with performance being measured at or above minimum acceptable levels

  • Attract, select, develop, train, coach, appraise and motivate managers and other personnel for key staff positions and the facility

  • Represent the company in the local community to enhance its image and reputation


Basic Qualifications:

  • This position requires the use of information or access to technology which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR/EAR. ITAR/EAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e., "Green Card Holder"), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institute

  • Minimum of 7 years of operations experience (minimum of 5 years for internal candidates)

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading people

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship


Position Criteria:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current manufacturing, materials/purchasing and quality assurance methods and practices

  • Demonstrated understanding of financial practices and financial statements, including capital equipment analysis, cost accounting, budgeting, project cost analysis, maintenance analysis and organizational techniques

  • Ability to drive change and successfully lead and implement these change initiatives

  • Demonstrated ability to manage direct reports and build organizational capability

  • Strong communication skills and comfort with facilitating teams/groups and working with all levels in the organization


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (MBA)
