Eaton’s Lighting Division is currently seeking a Specialist Embedded Linux Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Atlanta, GA or Peachtree City, GA office.  

Position Overview:

In this role you will be responsible for understanding product requirements, analyzing and resolving software issues, and designing and developing software using C++ for a Linux Single Board Computer (SBC).  This role also requires providing technical solutions, following software processes & lead in product/test development & technology innovations.  Additionally, assist the architectural lead in conceptualization, engineering and software specification of new product platform solutions that meet the stated market requirements for performance, cost, quality, and functionality for IOT Lighting Control products.

In this function you will:
  • Engage in development, design and testing of platforms using C++, python and bash scripts on a Linux Single Board Computer (SBC) with IOT connectivity
  • Introduce new Linux SBC hardware and troubleshoot driver interfaces and suggest and develops platform components and looks for continuous improvement opportunities in Lighting products. Shares knowledge within the team and demonstrates flexibility by working in parallel on multiple assignments/product categories
  • Ensure quality of delivery in accordance with the plan adhering to the standard practices used in an agile model.
  • Protect intellectual property through patent disclosures
  • Support our team of global field commissioning engineers with technical challenges
  • Investigate/ and research technologies that would improve product performance, reduce development time or reduce cost
  • Support our team of global field commissioning engineers with technical challenges
  • Search for technologies which would improve product performance, reduce development time or reduce cost
  • Train and mentor colleagues in design methodologies and technologies.

Eaton has announced it has reached an agreement to sell its Lighting Business to Signify N.V. This transaction is expected to be completed in the first Quarter of 2020 and this position is expected to remain with the Lighting Business and would transfer to Signify N.V. upon close.  The compensation and benefits that will initially be offered for this position are based on Eaton’s plans, programs and practices.  If you are offered and accept this position and are actively employed by the Lighting Business when the transaction closes, you will be eligible to participate in Signify N.V.’s compensation, health, welfare, and retirement benefit plans and programs and should have no expectations that Signify N.V’s plans and programs will mirror or be substantially similar to Eaton’s.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Math, Physics or Computer Science from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 5 years of product design experience
  • Minimum 3 years of C++ programming experience
  • Experience with developing software for Embedded Linux
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position.  Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Peachtree City, GA or midtown Atlanta, GA will be considered.  Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Proficiency in C++11+, STL and templates
  • Strong Linux Kernel fundamentals
  • Experience in DevOps and with Docker is desirable
  • Advanced knowledge of Yocto Linux and writing BitBake Recipes.
  • Basic Linux System Admin experience
  • Experience applying security patches to libraries and the kernel
  • Familiarity with cryptographic signing
  • Experience cross compiling for mips and arm
  • Experience with uboot and an overlay filesystem
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of IOT
Position Criteria:
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
  • Develop an understanding of both technology and product concepts and is able to articulate product and software design.

  • Proficiency in Linux OS for embedded applications
  • Proficiency in C++ application development
