Sustaining Engineer - Ground Fueling

Job Description

Eaton’s Fuel & Motion Control Systems division, a part of our Aerospace group, is currently seeking a Sustaining Engineer, Ground Fueling to join our team. This position is based at our Irvine, CA location. 


Position Overview:


The Sustaining Engineer is responsible for providing overall technical direction, oversight and leadership for ground fuel component and systems development for both new and existing products. Leading Designers/Drafters (both locally and overseas) and related groups of functions including shop floor team in Irvine, external customers, suppliers, in a cross-divisional, matrixed environment to resolve current production program problems to published schedule.


The chosen candidate will be responsible for verification and for driving improvement in the reliability, maintainability and cost effectiveness of ground fueling components and assemblies, while leading technical reviews and project status reviews for internal/external customers and management.


The incumbent will support multiple engineering disciplines to provide conceptual designs responsive to customer needs. They will recommend programmatic decisions on approach to new or modified designs and collaborate with Program Management to track program progress and coordinate hardware design and development activities.

In this function you will:
  • Function as the engineering support for technical proposals responding to customer specifications and other defined needs.

  • Complete internal deliverables such as technical concepts, trade studies, and analyses.

  • Review and analyze field problems, manufacturing problems, and associated reports to resolve product issues and incorporate lessons learned.

  • Establish developmental, qualification, and acceptance test procedures in the following areas: stress analysis, Acceptance Test Procedure (ATP) test support, weight calculations, trade studies, cost trade-offs, and tolerance stack-up analysis

  • Provide engineering support of component testing, including the analysis and interpretation of test data; initiates design changes and corrective actions as required.

  • Communicate and coordinate with external customers (e.g., airframe manufacturers, defense agencies, etc.) in the analysis and resolution of specialized engineering problems. Additional support to Program Management as required.

  • Create Engineering Change Requests (ECR’s) and Orders (ECO’s) and present ECR’s/ECO’s to the Change Control Board for approval. 

  • Represent ground fueling engineering department in Tier meetings; supports Operations organization to prioritize and manage sustaining workload to achieve high 5 metrics.

  • Drive continuous improvement efforts within the organization.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in engineering from an accredited institution.

  • Minimum of 3 years of mechanical/project engineering or electro-mechanical experience developing automotive or aerospace components and systems

  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future

  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position.  Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Irvine, CA will be considered.  Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering mechanical, agricultural or aerospace engineering

  • Master's degree in Engineering

  • 3 years of experience in the design and development of aerospace fluid management components (fuel, hydraulic or air) with fuel component experience

  • Knowledge/skills in CAD modeling using a major software package (e.g., CATIA V5, SolidWorks, ProE, CREO, or UG-NX)

  • Working knowledge of fuel systems and/or pumps, valves, pressure/flow regulators, and/or other applicable fluid management hardware, such as hydraulics or environmental control system (ECS) components.

  • Thorough knowledge of product applications, product design techniques, engineering processes, and engineering standards.

  • Proficient using MS Office tools.

  • Sufficient knowledge to evaluate and interpret geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5

Position Criteria:
  • Generate technical write-ups, technical procedures, and reports.

  • Lead assigned project, including oversight of design engineers, drafting personnel and test technicians.

  • Follow directions from a supervisor, understand and follow established procedures, accept constructive criticism, lead and manage others, and work on multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Must be able to work with other personnel in a team environment to identify and solve problems as well as define and implement process improvements.

  • Make recommendations on product designs, material, strongly influence product costs, and capital investments.

  • Ability to lead technical discussions and presentations for internal and external customers, including design reviews, non-advocate reviews and technical coordination meetings.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills needed.

  • Work across site boundaries in a global virtual engineering organization. Flexible to adapt work schedule to meet demands, meetings and business needs.

  • Ability to network and develop relationships with other Eaton Aerospace and non-Aerospace resources

  • Ability to develop productive working relationships with functions and organizations outside of Engineering.

  • Willing to travel up to 10%, with some international travel
