This exciting role is to design & development of world-class substation-grade embedded systems encompassing functionality from data acquisition through protocols conversion, automation functions, time synchronization, event logging and alarming, HMI, etc.  As a member of a creative, motivated and talented team, we need our engineer to be versatile and passionate to tackle new problems as we continue to push technology forward. You will be responsible for contributing technologies which can change the economics of our embedded software. You will design software systems, generate IP, and work closely with the team to assess business impact and constraints. You must be proficient with current software development technology, tools and practices, and have proven-level capabilities in C++.


Your essential responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the software development efforts by contributing to the architecture, design, and implementation of world class, high-robustness, embedded software platforms.

  • Evaluate business requirements to determine potential solutions.

  • Work directly with stakeholders, engineering, and test to create high quality products that solve customer problems.

  • Propose and provide innovative, competitive technical solutions which can make significant business impact and provide value to stakeholders.

  • Provide work estimates and conduct design, implementation, and code reviews.

  • Develop and execute plans for incremental and inter active project delivery.

  • Work with test team to ensure adequate and appropriate test case coverage; investigate and fix bugs

  • Mentor team members, assisting them in technical and process areas.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Expected to develop an understanding of Eaton’s Agile development process and integrate daily product development activities as necessary to work within its constraints.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Software Development

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science/Software Development 

  • 7+ years’ experience in the software industry, with a proven track record of shipping high quality products.

  • Expert level skills in C++

  • 3+ years’ experience developing embedded systems involving Multi-threading / thread syncs. Etc.

  • Excellent object oriented design and programming skills, including the use of design patterns

  • Knowledge of embedded systems, operating systems, real-time multitasking and communication protocols.

  • Experience utilizing best practices in software engineering.

  • Experience in an Agile design methodology.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to explain technical concepts.

  • Strong problem solving and reasoning ability, exhibiting technical innovation and creative solutions.

  • Abreast of upcoming software development/engineering tools, trends, and methodologies.

  • Good judgment, time management, and decision-making skills.  

  • Experience with the Linux operating system

  • Experience with Microsoft Windows and Windows based operating systems

  • Experience with basic networking, serial/ TCP/UDP communications

  • Knowledge on Industrials/electrical protocols, Substation Automation domain, Networking and Microsoft Team Foundation Suite

  • A high degree of aptitude, creativity, and self-direction is required. Work independently to tight deadlines.
