Eaton’s Fluid Electrical Distribution division, a part of our Aerospace sector, is currently seeking a Product Design Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Bethel, CT location.
The Product Design Engineer acquires and enhances specific product/technology knowledge relevant to the product line technology by cross training with technical personnel, hands on exposure and specific technical training.
The incumbent will develop new products incorporating existing and new technologies, and support their transition into the manufacturing/operations departments using a stage gate methodology. This will include requirements review, compliance assessment, mechanical design generation and validation through all phases of the program.
Responsibilities include both design engineering and project management tasks starting with design development, design reviews, design documentation generation, and support using DFSS and concurrent engineering methodology, creation and following of program schedules, customer and cross functions interface, qualification and transition into the production environment.
Additional responsibilities include various sustaining engineering assignments in failure analysis, MRB dispositions, reverse engineering, testing and cross-functional support by providing engineering expertise using technical knowledge, interpersonal communication skills, and engineering tools.
You will work on cost reduction initiatives and execution from new and existing products by developing innovative designs.

Work out detailed engineering calculations and apply Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) tools to prove the feasibility, accuracy/performance, and reliability of a proposed or existing design.
Provide detailed electro-mechanical designs to meet the requirements of the customer specifications.
Communicate with customers on a highly technical basis concerning performance, system interface and development schedules.
Support engineering, contracts, planning and purchasing cross functions in the preparation of the new product proposals for Aftermarket, RMU and NPD opportunities.
Provide technical expertise daily to technicians and assembly personnel in support of the assigned program.
Apply appropriate military, government, industry and customer specifications and standards to all design phases of a program.
Design with cost effectiveness and manufacturing feasibility as a primary concern. Implement cost savings against new and existing products.
Author and/or approve Test Procedures, ESS, Acceptance, and Qualification.
Manage failure investigations and provide technical reports of applicable findings.
Ensure that all program documentation is complete and accurate by self-review and by distribution to all departments concerned. This is to be managed via the use of PROLaunch® (phase-gated design process).
Author various program SDRL items, such as FMEA’s, MTBF’s and any other applicable data items to fulfill program requirements
Review and disposition discrepant material.

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution required.
Minimum 1 year experience in a similar position required (equivalent co-op or internship engineering experience may be considered).
Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future
This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Bethel, CT will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.
- Military and aerospace background preferred.
Working experience in the use of CAD and Solid Modeling Tools (CATIA and ACAD preferred), FEA - Ansys software a plus.
Proficient in CAD and Solid Modeling Tools (CATIA and ACAD preferred), knowledge of MathCAD, FEA analysis, i.e. Ansys a plus.
Knowledgeable and familiar with the application of DFSS tools a plus.
Familiarity with the purpose and intent of military, government, aerospace and commercial specifications and how to utilize them for specific product applications

Proficiency in standard business software packages (MS Word, Project, Excel, PowerPoint)
Mastery of fundamental engineering principles associated with the design of electro-mechanical components
