Eaton’s Controls & Protection Division (CPD), a division within the Electrical Sector is looking for a Vice President of Innovation & Commercial Strategy. The role will report directly to the President of CPD & Functionally to the VP of Innovation & Technology for the Electrical Sector America Region. The Controls & Protection Division is approximately $1.5B in annual revenue with ~6000 employees globally. This role will functional lead more than 350 employees within Engineering & Marketing. This role will be responsible for setting the innovation and commercial strategy for the division by: identifying and developing long term technology needs across the division, identifying new growth & innovation opportunities, leading the strategic pricing process & overseeing the divisions end-to-end M&A strategy. This role will partner directly with CPD business VP/GM’s and engineering teams, as well as the VP of Innovation & Technology for the Electrical Sector - Americas. He/she will ensure a partnership between marketing and engineering to gain knowledge of customer applications. He/she will ensure a deployable strategy and technology vision of the future by fostering a culture around great people, contemporary processes, and an innovative climate. 

 

The VP Innovation & Commercial Strategy will enable a culture of innovation by reinforcing behaviors of networking, experimentation, observing and questioning. This position will drive innovation excellence and accountability individually and organizationally. He/she will also drive and deliver essential programs flawlessly through integrated program management. The VP Innovation & Commercial Strategy will be charged with setting a forward-thinking technology strategy that drives value for the customers, accelerates business performance growth and vitality, and differentiates the organization at a systems level. He/she will partner with marketing leads and business development in exploring new opportunities to gain market share in the growing power management environment through building greater controls and sophistication into America’s products and services. The VP Innovation & Commercial Strategy will also improve Eaton’s technology and product platforms, with the mandate to create more efficiency in the development life cycle and increase quality output. 

Additional responsibilities will be to:

  • Guide the commercial and technology strategy while taking a holistic view of the business needs of the company, the dynamics of the industry and the marketplace, the activities of key competitors, and the product and service requirements of customers.

  • Leverage global resources by building high performance teams across functions, geographies, time zones and cultures to deliver on key customer commitments. Responsible for driving the execution of technical skill shifts/capability, footprint optimization, and capacity planning.

  • In partnership with the corporate business development team, oversee the end-to-end acquisition (M&A) process including target identification, business assessment, valuation, contract negotiation, integration planning to also include commercial & technology partnerships.

  • Build a learning performance driven innovation and technology culture applying functional excellence.

  • Continue to drive the migration & integration of innovation solutions from core electro-mechanical and power electronics technologies to more advanced communications, controls, software, power/digital electronics & IIoT.

  • Maintain a constant vigilance and nimbleness in driving change to ensure the division is on the cutting edge of advances in technology performance.

  • Creating strong partnerships with CPD engineering leaders to promote / implement the use of common platform technologies within their critical programs. Understanding the areas of technical commonality and unique market / customer differences will be a critical to establishing common CPD wide product & technology platforms.

  • Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical conduct in leading the organization, ensuring protection of the environment, development of human resources, and application of sound business practices.

  • Provide CPD wide leadership for digital/IIoT solutions that span across the various product and software platforms.

  • Oversight of Market growth initiatives, sales performance, market development, development of marketing programs, and vertical market pricing strategies and tools.

  • Develop a rapport key clients and customers with the ability to speak across the CPD products.

 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

  • 10 years’ experience in Engineering, Product Management and/or Program Management

  • 7 years’ experience leading leaders

Preferred Requirements & Other Position Criteria 
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred

  • MBA or other advanced degree preferred

  • History of creating and managing a portfolio of high-tech projects, defining project scopes, developing and monitoring timelines and budgets for on-time and on-budget delivery

  • Experience in leading an engineering organization with demonstrated experience in leading new technology efforts from inception to transition to a customer organization, driving program deliverables, identifying and resolving technical and program decision/issues

  • Thorough understanding of the product development process with the ability to balance/manage commercial expectations and project timelines including phased gate development processes

  • Experience in leading globally dispersed development and quality assurance teams

  • Sensitivity to cultural differences and understanding communication practices needed to create successful partnerships in an open and supportive environment

  • Ability to communicate effectively across organizational lines.

  • Team player with strong facilitation/interpersonal skills and a demonstrated commitment to continuous process improvement

  • Experience presenting to Senior Leadership

  • Experience and success with operating in a large and global organization

  • Demonstrated experience in building organizational technology capabilities and increasing the development and movement of high performing talent through broaden experiences around core technology enablers, as well as provide scale and establish bench and succession depth
