General Manager

Job Description

Position Summary:

The General Manager (GM) – MENA is responsible for the short and long-range growth and profitability of the product lines within the MENA region and the proportionate contribution to the over-all growth and profitability in support of established goals and objectives.

This position requires an understanding of global markets and technology trends in the Lighting market.  The incumbent will develop, direct and coordinate a regional organization with functional responsibilities for business development and strategy, sales, marketing, finance and human resources, together with the administration of the Dubai legal entity and ensuring compliance with local legislation and reporting. 

Essential Functions:

Sales Strategy

  • Analysis of market data, trends, customer needs in order to advise executive management concerning market opportunities and threats in line with long term organizational strategy in order to advise executive management with regards to input for the sales strategy.

  • Maintaining and building relations with important market parties, internal sales organizations, business units and branch organizations.

  • Assessment of the effects of changes within the organizational strategy and acting upon them.

  • Management of the strategic country planning process.

  • Setting out strategic direction in collaboration with the Sales Management Team

Sales Operation

  • Manages sales plans by develop and assigner individual or team targets, supporting and motivating sales representatives in achieving their plans.

  • Analysis, reporting evaluation and development of KPI’s aligned to the Profit Plan and Strategic Plan for short and long term adjustments.

  • Maintaining Sales Reports as required in line with procedures and profit plan.

Business Development

  • Negotiating and Influencing at executive and management level resulting in contracts and agreements.

  • Approving commercial agreements in line with organizational procedures.

  • Supporting sales managers in customer negotiations  

  • Initiates, develops and implements sales oriented customer events, activities, campaigns, company and product presentations and trade fairs.

  • Initiates collaborations in sales activities within Eaton, resulting in synergy sales and new business.

  • Directs the Country Operational activities to drive Eaton strategic and commercial goals as set by joint planning.

  • Acts as a role model in line with Eaton ethical standards of conduct.

  • Works in cooperation with other Business Units and Eaton departments putting Eaton’s overall interest above immediate local benefit.

  • Acts as Eaton’s nominated legal representative and General Manager for the legal entity in Dubai.

  • Identifies and develops possibilities for future business growth, including possible acquisitions, bringing them to the attention of the relevant central team for further investigation and possible next steps.

  • Building Organizational Capability by developing competencies as well as identifying talent gaps.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Own and execute the annual strategic growth and operating plan consistent with the results and behavior objectives of the business

  • Responsible for leading all business and functional support operations.

  • Accountable for full profit center performance.  Ensure execution and financial performance to deliver the agreed profit plan

  • Execute established goals for sales growth, market share, profit contribution and return on investment

  • Build high performance culture and organizational capability. 

  • Coordinate a unified direction between functional departments and business units through effective global communication and feedback

  • Ensure a safe work environment for all employees through implementation of safety awareness programs and compliance with related regulatory requirements.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Four Year Degree in Business or Technology, BSEE/BSME preferred, MBA desired
  • Management of sales operations with full profit center responsibilities
  • Proven business leader with prior interactions with senior executive team
  • Direct profit center accountability with a track record of delivering sustained profitable revenue growth and creating shareholder value
  • Financial competence, familiarity with planning, forecasting P&L and operational management
  • Experience with international business, global business planning and global channel development
  • Accustomed to frequent customer interfaces
  • Experienced Manager of People, with track record of managing teams.

  • Ability to influence decision making of key stakeholders.

  • Intercultural awareness.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated executive presence – board room quality – able to represent Eaton to senior managers externally and internally.

  • Proficiency in English language.

  • Diverse experience leading organizations across the Middle East.  Leading growth initiatives in Africa helpful
  • Leadership and proven results in specification project businesses
  • Confident leader in a “change” environment, driven by both recent acquisition and rapidly evolving business strategy.  The ability to enhance or improve stated top level objectives by effective direction and delegation
