Eaton’s Aerospace division is currently seeking a Lead Product Design Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Beltsville, MD facility.

This person will be responsible for leading the design, development, qualification, and release of new or existing ducting products for aerospace fluid conveyance systems. This includes reviewing and approving documents including cost estimates, appropriation requests, project schedules, design and instruction specifications, operating manuals, and technical reports. A successful candidate will be able to guide integrated product teams utilizing global resources, to take a technical challenge from concept or problem identification to production release or final solution.
The role requires the ability to lead and mentor engineers (both onsite and remote) in applying sound engineering principles and practical problem solving using Eaton engineering tools. The ability to proactively coordinate resources such as the Test Labs, Quality, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing Engineering is essential. The incumbent will provide guidance for the direction of the product line, Profit Plan, and technology development.

Leads development of new products from concept level, through validation and qualification cycle for aircraft applications, following applicable regulatory and industry standards, PROLaunch and ACES 2.0 processes, utilizing CAD 3D modeling techniques. Controls and drives project expenditures within limitations of project budget and timeline.
Launches multiple small to medium sized projects by providing estimates on work scope and creating a success-based plan/schedule. Plans, organizes, and leads large project teams through Eaton’s Phase-Gate process. Projects often represent the most challenging ones and the ones with the most organizational impact.
Coordinates responses to sustaining engineering issues, developing timely, cost effective solutions to product life cycle objectives or problems. Represents engineering in the Material Review Board.
Reviews engineering inputs to customer proposals, creating solutions and estimating materials, testing costs and engineering labor.
Reviews mechanical design and dimensional analyses. Reviews structural, thermal, dynamic, and performance analysis for design validation. Interface effectively with applicable internal resources to accomplish complete product analysis.
Assures test procedures and setups for development, acceptance, and qualification testing are acceptable. Provides final approvals of engineering documents and processes.
Uses technical tools and methods and is recognized/sought out for their technical expertise – as well as proficiency in advanced problem-solving techniques. (Ex.: Teach "How" to use the core tools, endorsing best practices.)
Communicates effectively internationally and at all organizational levels. Supports Marketing and Sales with technical presentations on the front-end side. Demonstrates leadership behavior through successful consulting, auditing, coaching, and mentoring.

Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
6 years of product design engineering experience
Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future

Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineer or Master’s Degree in Engineering
6 years of aerospace product design engineering experience
Certification in Lean 6-sigma methods preferred. Black Belt, DFSS/SSDD Black Belt, or Project Management Professional Certification
Proficiency in CATIA v5, ASME Y14.5, Enovia (document management system)
Ability to review structural and mechanical analysis through completed in FEA, CFD, and/or kinematic simulation.
Demonstrated use of acceptance Test Procedures (ATP’s), Qualification Test Plans (QTP’s), and support Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) conformity efforts, and Failure Reporting and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) activities with the customer during qualification test program.
Provide approval of physical verification of analytic methods at test lab(s) to ensure successful product qualification test program
Ability to effectively develop 3D CAD models and drive integration of PLM/PDM upgrades
Product Design Experience with non-metallic, plastic, injection molding, additive manufacturing, and other composites.
Has a record of leading improvements in technical or project management processes through personal initiative. (Ex.: Leading task force, focus group or kaizen teams, etc. and implementing the change)
Strong internal and external communication skills
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships within the function
Ability to break down complex problems into manageable pieces
Recognized internationally as technical expert and capable project leader who can be consulted on technology trends
Good interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective intra and inter-departmental relationships at all levels. Facilitate consensus solutions to effectively resolve problems and issues.
