Quality Engineer

Job Description

Eaton’s Lighting division is currently seeking a Quality Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Vicksburg, MS facility.

Position Overview:

The primary function of this position is to perform detailed quality assurance activities such as, PPAP, Continuous Improvement, PPM Reduction, customer satisfaction & process analysis and corrective and preventive actions.

In this function you will:
  • Coordinate and perform APQP for new product launches.

  • Conduct process capability studies as needed& initiate corrective action when necessary.

  • Implement systems to reduce customer complaints.

  • Perform effective 8D, CAR, Four (4) Blocker analysis and lead production teams to successful completion.

  • Develop and maintain inspection standards and process check sheets.

  • Effectively train quality and manufacturing personnel.

  • Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing & evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.

  • Participates in functional testing and/or inspection of equipment and systems.

  • Generates, reviews and approves First Article Inspection Reports.

  • Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.

  • Implements solutions to complex problems occurring internally.

  • Prepares statistical analysis reports, specifications and other technical documents.

  • Utilizes SAP systems daily to support Quality Department inspection activities.

  • Interprets and adapts quality standards & governing procedures

  • Provides limited project direction to other staff members.

  • May perform incoming material/part inspection& generate nonconformance, material rejections and corrective action reports, as well as communicating final acceptance test reports with customers.

  • Generates and maintain files of all quality and as-built information for each product.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Eaton has announced its intent to spinoff its Lighting Business into publicly traded company (“SpinCo”). This transaction is expected to be completed by the end of 2019 and this position is expected to remain with SpinCo. The compensation and benefits that will initially be offered for this position are based on Eaton’s plans, programs and practices. The Lighting Business is in the process of developing its total rewards philosophy, strategy and structure, including the design of its benefits and annual and long-term incentive plans that will take effect when SpinCo becomes a publicly traded company. If you are offered and accept this position and are actively employed by the Lighting Business when SpinCo becomes an independent, publicly traded company, you will be eligible to participate in SpinCo’s compensation, health, welfare, and retirement benefit plans and programs and should have no expectations that SpinCo’s plans and programs will mirror or be substantially similar to Eaton’s.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology from an accredited institution.

  • Minimum one (1) year of work experience in a Quality function within a manufacturing environment.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship both now and in the future.

  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates that currently reside within 60 miles of the Vicksburg, MS site will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation. 

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum two (2) years of quality experience including increasing responsibility and leadership of projects and teams of considerable size, scope and complexity in a manufacturing environment.

  • Effective verbal & written communication skills to interface with managers, vendors, customers and peers.

  • Proficiency in MS PowerPoint, SAP, MS Word, Electrical blueprint reading & MS Excel.

  • SAP business system experience.

  • Lean or six sigma training or certifications

Position Criteria:
  • Ability to coordinate engineering projects in a cross-functional team environment.

  • Excellent communication skills and proficient engineering report writing skills.

  • Must have the ability to function in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision, while performing multiple tasks.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams.

  • Strong time management skills.

  • Able to handle multiple and conflicting priorities.

  • Foundational knowledge of lean principles and manufacturing processes.
