About the research and the projects:


  • Eaton Research Lab (ERL) focuses on the front end of innovation by:  conducting research to advance the state of the art, emphasizing technologies with cross-business impact and innovating to provide Eaton’s customers with safe, efficient, and reliable power management solutions.


  • The Machine System Technology (MST) team has the principal goal of identifying, developing, and justifying commercialization of significant growth opportunities for diverse Eaton businesses in the area of electromechanical technologies related to systems and machinery, including system architecture, motors, actuation, mechanisms, and power transmission.  The team engages in defining, planning, leading and executing technology programs, applying electrical and mechanical engineering theory and practice in Vehicle, Hydraulics/Off-Highway and Aerospace applications.


  • Eaton is looking for an Electric Motor and controls Lead Engineer to develop innovative solutions for our power management products in e-Mobility applications at the Eaton European Innovation center in Prague (EEIC), Czech Republic.  This individual will be responsible for designing, developing and testing electric motors and systems for power generation and conversion and controls applications. 


Further broader goals/responsibilities for this role are:


  • Leads electric motor and it’s electronics engineering activities and demonstrates start-finish ownership for the assigned projects

  • Performs design, modeling, simulation and prototyping of motor controls, power electronics, including analog and digital electronics, for various e-Mobility and industrial applications.

  • Working on electric drive systems for Battery Electric Vehicles and Hybrid Vehicle Architectures

  • Develops the technical requirements for and identify components for the designs.

  • Creates technical reports and presentations.

  • Builds and measures test circuits.  Analyzes data to improve/optimize the designs.

  • Evaluates the designs to meet requirements factoring in performance, cost, size, reliability, and manufacturability.

  • Mentors, assigns tasks and determines priority for project team members as needed.

  • Collaboration with external partners like universities and/or companies, also Business Unit (BU) engineers and other global peers.



We would like you to know:


  • University degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.

  • Solid engineering experience in electric machines design and product development.

  • Significant modeling, simulation and analysis experience with tools like Matlab/Simulink, HIL tools.

  • Practical experience with vehicle safety systems & control topologies

  • Experiences with Battery Electric Vehicles and Hybrid Vehicle Architectures

  • Significant hands-on experience with power converter (Motor controls) development and testing.

  • Fluent in oral and written English.


What skills would be evaluated:


  • PhD in electrical engineering or equivalent.

  • Good understanding of induction, permanent magnet, flux machine design, EMC/EMI design practices, and torque, speed controls design practices.

  • Understanding of control theory.

  • Experience in EM electronics virtual prototyping.
