Design Engineer

Job Description

Working as part of the Projects Team
The role will include:
  • Oversight of custom project solutions utilising the Eaton Lighting Products – a project caseload will be assigned by the PM.

  • Creation of AutoCAD layouts, circuits and project specific drawings of both electrical/control enclosures, panels and systems.

  • Using S.A.P to create custom part numbers, generate BOMs and production issue documentation.

  • Manage document revision and control for all custom solutions.

  • Develop test procedures for production testing and configuration of project specific solutions.

  • Produce and administer on site ITP’s, test and validation procedures for complex projects.

  • Work on site with projects coordinators, engineers and PMs to ensure full QA of complex commissioning works.

  • Work alongside the Sales Support team to provide design/engineering input on tender responses.

  • Produce system configurations using Eaton Lighting Systems ‘Device Editor Suite’ and TSE Designer.

  • Co-ordinate with Production and R&D as required.

  • Produce FAT inspection packs as and when required.

  • Support the Project Management team in producing client documentation packs, including but not limited to:

    • Pre-commissioning check lists
    • Risk Assessments and Method Statements

    • Installation Schematics
    • Wiring schedules and drawings

    • Description of operation documents to include detailed control philosophies.

    • Completion certificates.
    • O&M manuals.
  • Attend a monthly project update with engineering manager.


Applicant Specification
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, ability to articulate engineering topics concisely to clients and colleague with a less technical background.

  • Skilled in the use of AutoCAD LT and other CAD suites

  • Advanced user of Microsoft office suite

  • Some Lighting Control/PLC/Controls/BMS or other electrical or electronic background essential

  • An understanding of Lighting control protocols is desirable including but not limited to DALI, 1-10v, Mains Phase dimming, DMX/RDM or entertainment industry controls.

  • Some background or knowledge of TCP/IP and CANbus communication.

  • Good working knowledge of BS7671:2018
  • Some background or knowledge of DIN rail enclosures, wiring standards and/or cabinet design to relevant BS standards.

  • The role will be based from Eaton Lighting Systems – Watford.

  • Travel to site is likely, depending on project caseload regular work on site may be required.
