Lead Buyer

 

This position is responsible for managing and developing a sub-commodity team of Senior buyers & Buyers to drive delivery of good quality, cost effective product on time, every time.

The role will require individuals to develop strong cross functional working relationships across the business with focus on value stream leads to ensure effective communication between functions. 

 

 

Your key deliverables:

 

  • Develops and implements sub-commodity strategies in line with Corporate, Divisional, Site, SRM and Mfg initiatives to improve supply chain efficiencies and reduce the total cost of supply chain management.

  • Manages sub-commodity and implementation teams in delivering supply chain strategies within project timescales

  • Coordinates all activities with Corporate, Group, Division and site mgt.  Works with the Site Supply Chain leads to manage relationships with suppliers.

  • Develops a sub-commodity supply base which creates and sustains a competitive advantage, utilizing global market exploitation, leveraging spend, and leveraging of technologies. 

  • Ensures appropriate performance measure (Quality, Cost and Delivery) of supply base and feedback of results

  • Management of key supplier’s performance measures and implementation of development plans

  • Manages sub-commodity team to deliver cost, quality and service in line with business requirements.

  • Self-motivation and strong communication skills are essential to this role.

 


Qualifications

Are you?

 

  • Knowledge of materials planning systems (MRP/ERP) requirements and order generation process logic

  • Thorough understanding of Supply Chain Management operational concepts surrounding production planning, inventory control, purchasing, logistics, stockroom operations, and shipping/receiving

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Process Variation Reduction (Six Sigma) concepts and tool sets as they relate to materials management is ideal but not essential

  • Ability to supervise cross-functional process improvement teams

  • Strong understanding of sub-commodity processes as well as special processes.

  • Knowledge of the commodity and sub-commodity marketplace, including in Low Cost Regions

  • Ability to analyze, identify and implement opportunities and corporate initiatives for improvement

  • Ability to coordinate cross-site, multi-functional teams.

  • Ability to develop sub-commodity strategies and priority setting for the Supply Chain initiatives

  • Detailed knowledge of industry specific quality registration schemes (i.e. ISO9001, ISO/TS-16949, AS9100, etc.)

  • Strong planning/project management skills

  • Strong PC application skills.  Including complement of Microsoft Office Software, with strong capabilities in Project and Access

 

The role requires ability to lead a team to deliver on leading KPI’s as well as focus on supplier management and development.  Ability to work within a matrix procurement organization is essential.
