  • Legal compliance risk management, including assessment of legal risks relating to operations and strategic decisions and development of effective compliance risk mitigation strategies, including development of processes and controls to eliminate or mitigate identified compliance risks.

  • Providing transactional, operational and contract support for assigned Eaton businesses and functions (HR, Sales, Supply Chain Management, etc.).

  • Providing general advice and counsel to management, including recommendations and legal opinions pertaining to strategic and operational decision making.

  • Providing advice and counsel regarding good corporate governance and compliance with Eaton’s Code of Ethics in business decision making, working collaboratively with Eaton Global Ethics & Compliance Office.

  • Effective management and resolution of litigation, labor and other disputes.

  • Representing assigned businesses in commercial and regulatory matters, including those involving governmental agencies.

Qualifications

  • Candidate must be licensed to practice law in China or in a common law jurisdiction and have law degree from reputable law school, preferably with a JD and/or LLM degree from an accredited U.S. law school.

  • The incumbent must have at least 8+ years’ experience ideally with a major law firm and in a public or private company setting with experience of having worked with MNCs in greater China/APAC.  Experience in the US and/or EMEA would be ideal.

  • Incumbent should have a “broad based generalist” legal background, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

  • -Understanding of corporate governance principles and best practices throughout China/APAC.

  • Familiarity with and experience in analyzing and responding to China laws and regulations, practice and government bureaus. Familiarity and experience in these matters in other APAC countries would be ideal.

  • Highly developed sense of judgment and risk management skills, with proven ability to think globally.

  • Dynamic leadership and communication skills.
  • The ability to successfully manage and drive development and execution of a legal strategy, including compliance. 

  • The ability to effectively work with non-legal business, engineering, technical and development teams will be crucial.

  • Strong reputation for integrity and ability to balance business interests with the need to exercise independent judgment and to raise (and escalate if necessary) potentially sensitive or contentious issues.

  • A high-energy leadership style able to effect change within a diverse, rapidly-growing and decentralized organization.

  • Demonstrated legal knowledge, leadership, sound strategic thinking, and ability to support executives, clients and other attorneys. Ability to think and act strategically.  Good problem solver; able to analyze, evaluate and distil complex qualitative and quantitative data and issues into workable parts and report on the same.

  • Knowledge of, or an ability quickly to learn, legal issues associated with anti-corruption/FCPA and government relations.

  • Fluency in both written and spoken English and Mandarin. Fluency in other Asian languages would be an advantage.
