Eaton’s Airport Lighting Division is currently seeking a Sales Team Leader to join our team. This role can be based at our Windsor, CT facility or remotely within the states:  Vermont, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, or Maine.   

Position Overview:

This position of Sales Team Leader will report to the General Manager of Airport Lighting and be a member of our North American Sales team supporting our airfield guidance systems offerings, as well as other sales to airports. North American Sales represents over 75% of the total sales for Airport Lighting products globally. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the North American sales team as well as directly managing sales for the Northeastern U.S. region comprised of 10 states.

In this function you will:
  • Develop and execute sales plans and programs to ensure the profit growth and expansion of Company products and services. Establish realistic goals for the market, consistent with overall division goals of growth & profitability and ensure necessary resource allocation for NA Sales team. Develop & maintain metrics tracking Sales team activities and success.

  • Ensure the timely and accurate preparation and delivery of price quotations for airport lighting projects in the assigned region. Promote the value of project business support activities to capitalize on the Company's value-added sales efforts.

  • Obtain and maintain comprehensive intelligence on project activity in the assigned region through various information sources to ensure a high level of awareness of project activity.

  • Recommend best channel to market for each major project based on strategic, economic, and customer requirements to assure that a high level of customer satisfaction and financial strength is achieved.

  • Achieve satisfactory profit/loss ratios and share of market performance in relation to pre-set standards and to general and specific trends within in the industry and economy.

  • Develop and maintain monthly/ quarterly/ annual sales forecasts using the designated CRM tool.

  • Work directly with Engineering firms and contractors to build specification base and relationships to enhance future business opportunities.

  • Serve as “Voice of the Customer” by making recommendations and supplying feedback to internal teams to ensure products meet and exceed customer expectations.  Advocate on behalf of NA Sales team with internal stakeholders. Be responsible for engineering functional objectives and initiatives in support of our strategic plan.

  • Confront and solve performance/operational issues to improve engineering efficiency.

  • Have responsibility for expense management and capital planning.


Eaton has announced its intent to spinoff its Lighting Business into publicly traded company (“SpinCo”).  This transaction is expected to be completed by the end of 2019 and this position is expected to remain with SpinCo.   The compensation and benefits that will initially be offered for this position are based on Eaton’s plans, programs and practices.  The Lighting Business is in the process of developing its total rewards philosophy, strategy and structure, including the design of its benefits and annual and long-term incentive plans that will take effect when SpinCo becomes a publicly traded company. If you are offered and accept this position and are actively employed by the Lighting Business when SpinCo becomes an independent, publicly traded company, you will be eligible to participate in SpinCo’s compensation, health, welfare, and retirement benefit plans and programs and should have no expectations that SpinCo’s plans and programs will mirror or be substantially similar to Eaton’s.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

  • A minimum of 5 years of sales experience with engineered products; at least 2 years of sales management experience.

  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future

  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position.  Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Windsor, CT will be considered.  Candidates outside this range, but residing within Vermont, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, or Maine, can be considered for remote work. U.S. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Business, Marketing or Engineering

  • A minimum of 7 years of sales/marketing experience; at least 3 years of sales management experience

  • Experience in the lighting or lighting controls industry

  • Experience selling engineered, configured and/ or specified products

  • Experience selling offering that includes hardware/ equipment, software and services

  • Experiencing selling large commercial projects
Position Criteria:
  • Excellent project management and problem-solving skills; demonstrated goal setting and progress measurement towards goals

  • General understanding of internal economic factors (cost, margin, profit impact of decisions) affecting project area

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and practical experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Demonstrated success in specified, engineered products markets and applications

  • Team leadership skills
  • Cross functional communication skills; ability to build rapport and trust with wide range of internal and external audiences

  • Strong presentation skills
