Quality Engineer

Job Description

Eaton’s Aerospace division is currently seeking a Quality Engineer to join our team. The position is based at our Jackson, MS facility.

   

The Jackson facility has approximately 500 employees and is a leader in the design, development, manufacturing and delivery of Aerospace hydraulic components, systems and services to the global aftermarket and OEM markets. 

 

Quality Engineer – Aftermarket High Performance Work (HPWT) Team will determine, develop, and monitor inspection and test techniques necessary to meet design requirements, including aftermarket requirements driven by blueprints, component maintenance manuals, and customer documentation.  In addition, the Quality Engineer will be responsible for the quality performance of two HPWT Cells (Pumps and Motors).

In this function you will:
  • Conduct product and process audits for the HPWT. Identify necessary corrective action.
  • Function as the key point of contact for Stock Sweeps, Quality Alerts, and Quality Directives issued in the Production portions of the business. Interpret and act on them as required for the Aftermarket business. 
  • Administer training programs on quality issues pertinent to the work performed by Aftermarket High Performance Work Team personnel.           
  • Determine inspection gauging requirements, including their availability both in-house and at suppliers.  
  • Assist in gage design to improve inspection effectiveness.
  • Perform internal process and product audits to verify compliance to Component Maintenance Manuals and other work instructions, which is critical to maintaining FAA and Customer approval.
  • Monitor assembly and test processes and methods to assure maintenance of in-process quality levels and to prevent quality problems.                    
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and suppliers to improve manufacturing processes and develop methods to eliminate quality problems.
  • Work with government and/or other customer representatives to interpret or reach agreement on quality procedures and acceptability of products.  Assure compliance with the specified government requirements.
  • Investigate and resolve product quality problems caused by processes, material or worker error.
  • Review rejected hardware to identify cause and corrective action.           
  • Suggest process and/or design changes to improve productivity and/or yield.   
  • Evaluate discrepant material and determine whether it can be salvaged through approved recovery methods.    
  • Administer the discrepant material recovery program for parts salvageable for aftermarket use.
  • Maintain accurate records to comply with Company policy on record retention.
  • Own Corrective Action Request and Resolution to internal and customer audit findings including
     verification that actions implemented were effective. 
  • In conjunction with Product Support, Manufacturing Engineering and Product Support
    Engineering, conduct analysis on warranty items, trends, issues and recommendations on  
    prevention.
  • Plan, schedule, oversee, and/or conduct training on such topics as gage selection and use, GD&T, special inspection techniques (e.g., flatness measurement). 
  • Maintain appropriate training records.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution required. 

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience working in a Quality function within a manufacturing environment.

  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates that currently reside within 50 miles of the Jackson, MS facility will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, Business, or Technical Discipline/ Concentration

  • Experience in quality, design engineering dealing with complex assembly products or a technical field working with quality management systems (AS9100, ISO 9001, TS16949).

  • Experience working under Federal Aviation Administration regulations for Repair Station work.

  • Detailed knowledge of Aerospace product and manufacturing processes and inspection techniques.

  • Detailed knowledge of the latest ANSI Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) specifications per ASME Y14.5M.

  • Experienced knowledge of AS9100 Quality System and product/process auditing techniques.

  • Must exhibit a high level of motivation, sense of urgency, and energetic approach to job duties and requirements.
