Junior Electrical Engineer

Job Description

Eaton’s Airport Lighting division is currently seeking a Junior Electrical Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Windsor, CT facility.

 
Position Overview:
 

The Junior Electrical Engineer will report to the Director of Engineering and be a member of our New Product Introduction (NPI) development team supporting our airport lighting and control product lines. The successful candidate will participate in the development of our electronics hardware platform for airfield lighting and control products including power supplies, regulators, and control system components.  The candidate should be knowledgeable in digital and analog circuit design with a working understanding of embedded micro-controller architectures.  The ideal candidate should also have experience with embedded firmware development (C and assembly) for controlling real-time power supplies.

In this function, you will:

 
  • Participate in the design and development of new electronic solutions for products to meet internal and external customer requirements.

  • Support refinements to existing products including component obsolescence to maintain competitiveness of the product lines.

  • Collaborate with other members of the engineering team and other functions of the business to ensure products meet schedule, budget, performance and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) objectives.

  • Develop & advance technical skills in this subject area through ongoing self-training, mentor programs, and company assigned training.

  • Prepare data packages for comprehensive design reviews, design analysis & documentation, qualification and validation testing of work output to meet program/project requirements, specifications, quality/reliability, and successful product release.

  • Support all aspects of product introduction as needed from an electrical engineering perspective.

  • Proactive reporting on project efforts to maintain project plan fidelity.

  • Travel domestically and internationally as required for customer meetings, problem solving, & installation and/or commissioning.

 

Eaton has announced its intent to spinoff its Lighting Business into publicly traded company (“SpinCo”).  This transaction is expected to be completed by the end of 2019 and this position is expected to remain with SpinCo.   The compensation and benefits that will initially be offered for this position are based on Eaton’s plans, programs and practices.  The Lighting Business is in the process of developing its total rewards philosophy, strategy and structure, including the design of its benefits and annual and long-term incentive plans that will take effect when SpinCo becomes a publicly traded company. If you are offered and accept this position and are actively employed by the Lighting Business when SpinCo becomes an independent, publicly traded company, you will be eligible to participate in SpinCo’s compensation, health, welfare, and retirement benefit plans and programs and should have no expectations that SpinCo’s plans and programs will mirror or be substantially similar to Eaton’s.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in an electrical/hardware engineering role
  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position. Only candidates currently located within a 50 mile radius of Windsor, CT, will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship. 
Preferred Qualifications:
 
  • Experience utilizing simulation tools such as PSpice, LTSpice, Model Sim, etc.

  • Experience creating low level firmware for embedded controllers and real time systems

  • Familiarity with wireless communications and programming (Bluetooth Low Energy).

  • Experience using Altium for PCB layout

  • Familiarity with airfield lighting systems and specifications including FAA, TP312, and ICAO.

  • Experience with Texas Instruments C2000 MCUs, TI MSP430, TI Tiva, ARM Cortex M4

 
Position Success Criteria :
  • Analog circuit design and analysis skills including opto-electronics and power supply components, phase lock loops, linear amplifiers, etc.

  • Digital circuit design and analysis skills including microprocessor circuits and communication interfaces.

  • Working knowledge of thermal management techniques, calculations and methods.

  • Experience with schematic entry and familiarity with PCB layout best practices and tools.

  • Hands-on troubleshooting and bench skills including testing and debugging of hardware.

  • Computer literate and familiar with the following: MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Proficiency with standard lab equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, spectrum analyzers).

  • Ability to wear all Personal Protective Equipment required and comply with all Eaton Safety policies

  • Must be able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in English

  • Must be able to work with all levels within the organization

  • Ability to work effectively within a matrix organization.
