Material Compliance Engineer

This position is responsible for materials compliance-related product stewardship activities within the ES EMEA region and is understood to be the subject matter expert on all materials compliance issues of product stewardship. Under material compliance falls:
Restriction of substances used in the electrotechnical products including batteries and packaging;
Labelling requirements concerning the exposure to substances contained in electrotechnical products;
Declaration of the presence of certain substances contained in electrotechnical products.
The position holder is responsible for:
ensuring that materials compliance requirements applicable to products of the EMEA region are met and, therefore, the position holder is accountable that materials compliance requirements are integrated into the PROLaunch NPD process.
maintaining the compliance status of existing products and takes necessary steps for obtaining compliance information either from design review, supplier solicitation or analytical testing.
supporting the businesses responding to customer inquiries related to materials declaration of Eaton products.
Interprets new and upcoming materials-related regulations affecting the specific geography the incumbent is assigned to.
Translates materials-related regulatory requirements into actionable product specifications.
Supports new product development programs regarding the execution of the Design-For-Compliance process for ensuring that materials-related requirements are met.
Maintains the compliance status of products in SAP/EHSM and manages compliance assessments as result of new or updated regulatory requirements.
Manages compliance assessment campaigns utilizing 3rd-party resources in a system-mediated approach.
Supports the business units in the region to achieve product compliance by re-designing or replacing non-compliant components.
Generates product compliance declarations for market authorities and customers.
Consults with other functions (e.g. SCM, Sales & Marketing) on supply- and market risk controls measures concerning materials usage.
Coordinates, manages, and analyses the analytical testing of materials in external and external laboratories and develops testing procedures accordingly.
Advanced) degree in materials-related engineering or science (e.g. chemical engineering, chemistry, physics)
Solid experience in product-related compliance management - REACH, RoHS
Thorough knowledge of product-related design, production, and distribution practices.
Comprehension of industry, regional, and country product-related requirements.
Strong organizational skills including ability to manage large number of disparate projects and to track projects through completion.
Adept at utilization of company-wide system for product-related data management - EMS/EMAS
Ability to demonstrate managerial courage (e.g., managing varied interests representing potential conflicts).
Ability to support cross-functional process improvement teams.
