Job Description

Eaton’s Lighting Division is currently seeking a New Product Design Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Aurora, CO facility.

 

The New Product Design Engineer will design lighting fixtures that meet or exceed customer expectations, product performance and aesthetic benchmarks as established by our Marketing and leadership teams while also conforming to all regulatory requirements. In this role, you will be responsible to translate these designs into a set of engineering drawings and work with the Marketing, Program Management, Procurement, and Manufacturing teams leading to successful commercial launch of the programs.

  • You will be responsible for product design, part detailing, prototype procurement for luminaires from preliminary concept through implementation into manufacturing for the products.  
  • You will work on both new product concepts as well as refinements on existing product lines.
  • You will design and implement custom product, mounting, and options that conform to engineering and safety standards.
  • You will work with all stakeholders to ensure that final product design meets photometric, cosmetic, optical, electrical, mechanical, cost, safety and options requirements.
  • You will lead meetings, design reviews & tollgate reviews on product development with an emphasis on safety, quality, budget and schedule.  
  • You will accurately create bill of materials, drawings, and instructions for vendors and manufacturing. Maintain all product documentation in Enterprise Systems.
  • You will assist in training key Assembly, Planning, Sales, Customer Service and Purchasing personnel on new product introductions.

Eaton has announced its intent to spinoff its Lighting Business into publicly traded company (“SpinCo”).  This transaction is expected to be completed by the end of 2019 and this position is expected to remain with SpinCo.   The compensation and benefits that will initially be offered for this position are based on Eaton’s plans, programs and practices.  The Lighting Business is in the process of developing its total rewards philosophy, strategy and structure, including the design of its benefits and annual and long-term incentive plans that will take effect when SpinCo becomes a publicly traded company. If you are offered and accept this position and are actively employed by the Lighting Business when SpinCo becomes an independent, publicly traded company, you will be eligible to participate in SpinCo’s compensation, health, welfare, and retirement benefit plans and programs and should have no expectations that SpinCo’s plans and programs will mirror or be substantially similar to Eaton’s.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

 
  • Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Manufacturing Technology
  • 3 years’ experience in new product development, sustaining, or manufacturing role
  • SolidWorks or equivalent 3D modeling software
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working in Excel and Access with demonstrable macro writing experience
 

Position Criteria:  

  • Ideal candidate has a good understanding of manufacturing processes. Solid working knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, injection molding, extrusion, casting and other fabrication processes.
  • Comfortable with technology and has a strong working knowledge of MS office suite and SAP
  • Must be able to observe, evaluate, summarize and communicate effectively.
  • Must have an analytical and process-driven approach, with a high attention to detail
  • Capability in multi-tasking, including prioritization of work and management / organization of time.
  • Superb influencing / negotiation skills and ability to influence for results without hierarchical authority
  • Strong managerial courage and ability to work through resistance and pushback to change.
  • Requires excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • Strong drive for results is essential, with self-directed leadership, requiring minimal supervision & being proactive.
  • Must possess high ethical standards and be comfortable working in a fast paced, changing environment.
  • Must possess strong professional presence.
  • Must be able to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Good working knowledge of tolerance analysis, thermal analysis and control.
  • Knowledge of architectural lighting and optical design principles is desirable.
  • Experience with the UL certification process would be an asset.
