Lead Data Scientist

Job Description

Summary:

 

The candidate will demonstrate exceptional  impact in delivering projects in the Data Science Team of the GCIP (Global Centre for Intelligent Power) by demonstrating extensive experience preparing big data infrastructures, integrating data from disparate systems, and cleansing data. In addition, presenting solid understanding of Python, R and associated tools (RStudio, pycharm, scikit-learn, numpy).

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

• Derive, interpret and effectively deliver the results of data analysis using visualization techniques, tools, custom applications, or by narrating stories about the solutions to business problems
• Understand traditional and new data analysis methods that can build statistical models and discover patterns in data
• Explore data, ask the right questions, and provide compelling findings
• Utilize a broad range of techniques in machine learning, data mining, statistics, and big data interrogation methods
• Provide work estimates and participate in design and implementation reviews
• Develop and execute agile work plans for iterative and incremental project delivery
• Work directly with business stakeholders, engineering, and test to create high quality solutions that solve end-user problems
• Evaluate business requirements to determine potential solutions
• Evangelize data science work, principles, benefits, and best practices across the enterprise


Qualifications

Required:

• 6+ years’ of progressive experience in developing and designing technology solutions
• 5+ years’ of practical data science experience in the application of statistics, machine learning, and analytic approaches with a proven track record of solving critical business problems and uncovering new business opportunities
• Working knowledge of Python and/or C++ and associated IDE’s (Eclipse, IntelliJ, etc.)
• Working knowledge of Hive (or similar language) to perform ad hoc queries of large datasets
• Working knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems and their associated development platforms
• Ability to write complex queries that are accessible, secure, and perform in an optimized manner with an ability to output to different types of consumers and systems
• Solid understanding of relational and non-relational database systems
• Basic understanding of data visualization tools such as Power BI and/or Tableau
• Experience with Agile development methodologies and concepts
• Abreast of upcoming data science tools, trends, and methodologies


Desired:
• Experience in Design Thinking or human-centered methods to identify and creatively solve customer needs, through a holistic understanding of customer’s problem area
• Advanced degree and/or specialization in related descipline (e.g. machine learning)
• Knowledge of Hadoop and MapReduce
• Knowledge of cloud development platforms such as Azure or AWS and their associated data science capabilities
• Experience with visualization techniques for communication of large data sets
