Eaton’s eMobility Division is currently seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Southfield, MI facility.

The Lead Mechanical Engineer leads the design, development, testing, technical documentation of mechanical packaging for Power Electronics and Circuit protection components for the rapidly growing electric vehicle markets for automotive and commercial vehicles. This position will lead the development of mechanical packaging solutions in response to customer requests for proposal and lead the development efforts through production launch.  This position will also provide guidance to the broader team for direction on technologies for enclosures, thermal management of electronics, and designs for high volume manufacturing.

  • You will support the review of product requirements specification based on input from customer OEMs
  • You will generate (when necessary) the product requirements specification from the Voice of Customer (VOC) input
  • You will follow the product spec, design, development new and innovative products
  • You will prepare for, present, and participate in formal and informal design review activities
  • You will conduct testing of all new products in accordance with Eaton standards and customer requirements
  • You will complete appropriate technical documentation for new product development and plant introductions
  • You will prepare for, present, and participate in formal and informal design review activities
  • You will launch new product line extensions following a stage-gate process (i.e., PROLaunch)
  • You will investigate and analyze new materials and their appropriate use within our product line
  • You will develop the analysis plan for simulation to predict structural, fatigue, vibration, thermal, and flow performance
  • You will conduct detailed analysis of tolerance stacks to ensure efficient assembly and reliable product performance
  • You will guide the day-to-day activities of the design and drafting team
  • You will successfully support contractors either co-located or at international locations
  • You will establish and maintain a collaborative working relationship with key customers and vendors

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in new product development in electrical and electromechanical systems.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • Relocation is not offered for this position. Only candidates residing within a 50 mile radius of Southfield, MI will be considered.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • BSME/MSME
  • Ability to design with and utilize the features of SolidWorks, SolidWorks Simulation, AutoCAD or other mechanical design tools.
  • Knowledge of injection molding stamping, and casting component design.
  • Knowledge of Power Electronics packaging
  • Knowledge of thermal modeling
  • Experienced with current GD&T practices
  • Proven ability to lead a team to complete projects on time and on budget.
  • Good understanding of automotive or commercial vehicle markets is preferred
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and constantly changing customer market environment
