Engineering Manager - eMobility

Eaton’s eMobility segment is currently seeking an engineering manager to join our dynamic, entrepreneurial team. This position will be located in Southfield, MI.  Relocation assistance will be provided.

The eMobility Engineering manager role will be leading our Advanced Technology team.  This team delivers next generation technology in power electronics and circuit protection for application on electric vehicles. This includes but is not limited to inverters, on board chargers, DC Converters, high voltage power distribution units and fuses. This role will be responsible for developing and delivering the pipeline of projects that will support the rapid growth of the eMobility business. This role will be managing global teams both directly and indirectly to accomplish the projects. The team will continue to grow in both size and scope as eMobility grows and this position will be responsible for managing the team and the R&D budget. This role will establish the technology roadmap and stay on top of industry trends and emerging technology in the electric vehicle industry.  The team will be developing innovations in software and hardware from sub-component to vehicle system integration.

In this function you will:
  • Lead a team to develop and refine a technology strategy for the eMobility business

  • Manage and deliver global technology projects on-time and to budget

  • Gather Voice of the customer information from global automotive and commercial vehicle OEMs

  • Understand key supplier technology roadmaps
  • Drive functional excellence and efficiency with the team by utilizing engineering best practices and standardized tools

  • Coordinate external partnerships with universities, suppliers, and other 3rd party support to accomplish your goals.

  • Create the budget through the annual planning process and manage all programs to achieve targets

  • Participate in creation of the intellectual property strategy for the business

  • Manage competitive benchmarking activity and knowledge sharing

  • Establish and maintain a collaborative working relationship with key customers and suppliers

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in product development or technology development systems.  Experience gained from grad school programs or above will be counted toward this.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Power Electronics, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical engineering

  • Automotive Industry Experience
  • Experience with model-based design methods a plus

  • Knowledge of electric motors, inverters, chargers and DC converters

  • Experience with electric vehicles or hybrid vehicles

Position Criteria:
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

  • Track record of managing technology development teams
