Quality Engineer Sr/SQE

Job Description

Eaton’s Vehicles division is currently seeking a Quality Engineer Sr/SQE to join our team. This position is based at our Querétaro facility.

The Quality Engineer Sr/SQE is responsible for support and promotes the development of a quality culture through educating the organization in continuous improvement activities while assuring Eaton’s commitment to quality in all aspects of the organization. Represent customer´s best interest through manufacturing processes by assuring full compliance to Eaton Quality System. Also, is responsible for the quality performance of incoming product from direct suppliers into operations. Ensure proper support and response from suppliers is provided in cases where quality of direct supplied product is in question. Manages suppliers to assure compliance to internal and external regulations / procedures.

Some activities related with the position will be:
  • Develop and maintain process control plans assuring all customers specific requirements are met and included.

  • Leads statistical control tools and its application and use throughout all operations. Review data collection methods and applicability of data to operator control.

  • Participate in and lead structured team problem solving and apply statistical and other problem solving tools.

  • Drive root cause analysis and implementation of preventive and corrective actions for process related concerns.

  • Assist with the implementation of quality system and Eaton Business System (EBE, Quality System).

  • Leads warranty analysis process and attend warranty product review at customer locations when required. Ensure all warranty analysis information (painter charts, corrective actions, customer responses in customer systems, charts for trends, debit charges from customer) is documented and available to the organization.

  • Responsible for continuous improvement activities (5’s, kaizen lean workshops, etc.) to enhance quality system in their respective area of responsibility.

  • Assist in the development of PFMEA’s and be a facilitator of information that provides a better use of the tool.

  • Interface with engineering and operations to ensure manufacturing process compliance to quality system and an effective and efficient process performance (safety, quality, cost and productivity). Actively participate in manufacturing and process improvement teams as the voice of the customer.

  • Responsible for CONC control (scrap, rework, warranty, premium freight related to quality issues), monitoring and implementation of countermeasures when required.

  • Lead and assure full compliance on PPAP requirements. Communicate and provide status to customer on PPAP assuring all processes meet customer specific requirements.

  • Support quality inspectors/auditors to ensure that products and process comply with the relevant requirements of the quality management system.

  • Direct and conduct process potential studies and sample layout of new or revised processes

  • Interact with and assist customers on quality related issues. Analyze failure, corrective and preventive action to respond to customer complaints.

  • Assist in the preparation of customer required reporting documents.

  • Interface with suppliers, participate in supplier development efforts where needed for new programs.

  • Participate as a member of APQP teams to bring product to market.

  • Assist in the development and presentation of cost of quality measurements.

  • Assist in identifying and supporting quality related training programs

  • Comply with requirements of Quality and Environmental Managements Systems.

  • Daily revision of customer web sites.

  • Monthly revision of Customer scores.

  • Special characteristics evaluation and documentation.

  • Lead the overall SQA functions for operations including incoming inspection, containment area and supplier corrective actions.

  • Work directly with suppliers to improve overall part quality. Drive improvements to their overall quality systems.

  • Drive issue resolution with suppliers, engineering and manufacturing. Conduct periodic reviews of Supplier`s quality performance. Involves plant management when required in those periodic reviews.

  • Oversee the supplier certification program. Ensure supplier report card process is in place. Generate appropriate performance metrics and follow up plans.

  • Supervises all rework, containment and sorting activities that relates to supplier quality issues.

  • Develop and drive department projects such as reducing the need for incoming inspections, vendor to stock improvement, electronic certificates of compliance and parallel audit expansion.

  • Supervise incoming inspection auditors in operations as well as supplier quality technicians when present at operations.

  • Travel to supplier facilities when required to review and enhance their effectiveness and capabilities.

  • Monitors direct material quality performance in the plant.

  • Assure 100% use and compliance to Eaton tools like WISPER and other applicable to position. Pursues supplier cost recovery process with suppliers to assure a proper accounting of those costs.

  • Lead and assure full compliance on PPAP requirements from suppliers. Communicate and provide status to operations on PPAP assuring all processes meet all related requirements

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

  • Strong quality and statistics background required.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience applying quality tools in a manufacturing environment. Automotive preferred.

  • ASQ QE certification preferred

  • Strong communication skills (English conversational and written skills required)

  • Solid knowledge of engineering techniques and manufacturing processes

  • Thorough knowledge of statistics and statistical process control.

  • Computer literacy, including spreadsheets, statistical programs, database maintenance and CAD

  • Thorough knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD and T) principles

  • Proficiency in problem solving and quality techniques preferred, such as: Six Sigma Blackbelt or Greenbelt, Shainin Red X Tools.

  • Extensive knowledge and experience on AIAG Core Tools:

    • SPC
    • PFMEA
    • PPAP
    • APQP
    • MSA
  • Ability to communicate in the English language (80%)

  • Solid knowledge on Quality systems

  • Knowledge and compliance with the standards that rules the IATF16949

  • Internal Auditor training preferred
