Lead Manufacturing Engineer - Additive Manufacturing
Eaton’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence is currently seeking a Lead Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Southfield, Michigan facility. Relocation assistance will be provided.
Launched in July 2016 within Eaton’s Southfield Innovation Center, the AM CoE has an aggressive plan to commercialize 3D printed products for Aerospace and other applications.
The Lead Engineer will play an integral role in this scale-up effort and thus, will have the unique opportunity to shape the future of Eaton’s efforts in Additive Manufacturing. Additionally, on an on-going basis the position will develop and execute manufacturing process plans for the additive manufacturing applications, continuously improve processes and plans using tools and methods such as statistical process control (SPC) and design of experiments (DOE) and identify root cause and corrective action of technical production problems and develop re-work instructions when needed.
The candidate will report directly to the Leader of AM CoE. He/she will have extensive support network from Corporate Research & Technology, Aerospace Additive Manufacturing Application Development Integrated Product Teams and other business unit teams active in Additive Manufacturing across Eaton.
Serve as the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) champion for AM CoE. Ensure compliance with regulatory and Eaton EHS requirements, support incident investigations, conduct corrective action closure verification activities and drives “Zero Incident” culture.
Lead the selection and installation of capital equipment needed for the scale-up of AM CoE.
Lead the facility upgrade and shop floor reconfiguration projects in support of the LRIP initiative.
Develop expertise in post processing technologies (e.g., powder removal, surface treatment, and finish machining) of 3D printed metal parts.
Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing methods and work flow in AM CoE including standard work instructions, BOMs, equipment PMs, process specifications and reports tooling and fixture design along with written instructions and training with the elimination of bottlenecks
Conduct data driven analysis to manufacturing issues with tools such as DMAIC, Root Cause analysis, SPC, FMEA, Measurement System Analysis, Capability Analysis, Fish-Bone diagrams, 5 Whys, etc.
Conduct periodic process audits, identify opportunities for continuous improvement, and drive implementation of the improvements
Lead the preparation of PPAP packages and control plans.
Coordinate the implementation of “Digital Factory” approaches and tools in AM CoE.
Design processes to ensure that the production parts supplied out of AM CoE meet all internal and external customer quality specifications (e.g., AS9100, and Nadcap).

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Engineering
A minimum of three years of experience in a manufacturing environment
This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee
Master’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
Prior experience in an Aerospace or Automotive environment
At least one year of experience in additive manufacturing
- Lean/Six Sigma certification
Experience with CAD/CAM software packages, generating technical drawings; proficient in GD&T.
Experience with PPAP packages, control plans and design of experiments
Demonstrated experience in implementing Lean Manufacturing principles.
Excellent communication, planning, inter-personal, organizational, and project management skills and the ability to independently manage a heavy workload.
Experience with structured problem-solving skills including demonstrated use of DMAIC, Root Cause analysis, SPC, FMEA, Fish-Bone diagrams, 5 Whys, etc.
Experience with developing written shop processes, work instructions and/ or procedures.
