Eaton’s Aerospace Division is looking for a Senior Product Engineer (R&D) to join our team! This position will be based out of our Jackson Michigan facility.


Position Overview:

This Senior Engineer position shall lead innovation and/or new product development projects following a phase gated development approach (PreLaunch / PROLaunch) for new coupling solution products for the Aerospace Market. The role requires the ability to apply sound engineering principles and innovation to existing products as well as clean sheet design to meet evolving market demand for hydraulic, fuel, and coolant systems. This role will also support the development of bill of materials and non-recurring engineering (NRE) cost estimates for new project bids and proposals.

In this function you will:
  • Execute technical deliverables on Research and Development projects within the Framework of the PreLaunch / PROLaunch development process using Eaton Aerospace Common Engineering Standards.

  • Design and develop new products or re-design current products to meet customer requirements via cross functional collaboration with Customers, and an Internal team including Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Program Management as well as product or process Subject Matter Experts.

  • Develop Project execution plans to meet customer requirements and quote the labor, material, and other direct costs (MODC) required to execute.

  • Identify project technical and schedule risks and quantify impact of realizing the risk.

  • Apply statistical and analytical tools towards effective problem-solving and completion of project activities. 

  • Direct and support other engineering resources for timely completion of project objectives.

  • Lead structured problem solving efforts and/ or failure analysis to solve issues in a timely manner.

  • Conduct internal, supplier, and customer design reviews.

  • Write test procedures and qualification reports in support of program deliverables.

  • Participate in process improvement efforts.

  • Serve as primary contact for buyers for issues requiring product engineering review for conformance to requirements, change requests, clarification etc. \

  • Complete product engineering actions to support the daily defective material review process on the production floor along with quality and manufacturing engineering. Update engineering documentation as needed.

  • Provide initial engineering review of customer returned material, work with lead engineers, quality engineers, and customers to determine root cause of failure. Produce failure analysis reports as needed.

  • Lead problem solving activates and projects involving design and configuration of existing product. These may be initiated out of the continuous improvement teams, customer returns, supply chain issues etc. Project scope may include redesign, change management, qualification test plan development and execution.

  • Support product engineering function goals such as the review of engineering standards, engineering process improvements, and 5s.

  • Participate in new product development design reviews. Provide input from day to day experience. Learn from lead engineers for personal development for future roles.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from accredited institution

  • 2+ years’ experience in an Engineering role.
  • Ability to read and understand Drawings, Specifications, and Requirement

  • Understanding of design evaluation techniques such as reliability analysis, statistical tolerance stack up, Failure Mode and Effect analysis (FMEA), etc.

  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).  All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR.  ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee 

  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position.  Only candidates within a 50 mile radius of the work location will be considered

Preferred qualifications:
  • Knowledge of fluid conveyance related products, manufacturing techniques and materials

  • Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) background
Position Criteria:
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite tool

  • Proficiency in CAD (CATIA V5 preferred)
  • Exposure to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Familiarity with Product Data Management (PDM) systems for documentation control and

    workflow management

    Familiarity with continuous improvement tools such as value stream mapping, Kaizen, etc.
