Lead Engineer

 

Working within our award winning mechanical engineering team you will be responsible for executing technical deliverables on large projects, manage the development process and ensuring the team adheres to Aerospace Common Engineering Standards.

 

Your key deliverables:

 

  • Design and develop new products or re-design current products to meet customer requirements via cross functional collaboration with customers and an internal team including manufacturing, quality, supply chain, program management as well as product or process subject matter experts.

  • Identify project technical and schedule risks and quantify impact of realizing the risk.

  • Evaluate design trade-offs using design for six sigma tools.

  • Develop project technical execution plans to meet customer requirements and quote the labour, material, resource needs, and other direct costs (MODC) required to execute the development and qualification programs, addressing technical risks prior to qualification.

  • Apply statistical and analytical tools towards effective problem-solving and completion of project activities. 

  • Direct and support other global engineering resources for timely completion of project objectives.

  • Lead structured problem-solving efforts and/ or failure analysis to solve issues in a timely manner.

  • Conduct internal, supplier, and customer design reviews. Customer interface for most interactions at engineering level.

  • Review and approve analysis results.

  • Write, review and authorise test procedures and qualification reports in support of program deliverables.

  • Lead process improvement efforts at local or cross functional level.

  • Support product engineering function goals such as the review of engineering standards, engineering process improvements, and 5S.

  • Decompose system level requirements to assembly and component level critical to quality (CTQ) requirements.

  • Act as the main technical customer interface for projects.

  • Management of assigned tasks and team tasks to meet schedule and budget.

Qualifications

 

Are you?

 

  • 5+ years of experience in a mechanical engineering or engineering manager role.

  • BEng degree, in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or similar

  • Experience in design and project engineering functions.

  • Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (PTC Creo)

  • Understanding of design evaluation techniques such as reliability analysis, statistical tolerance stack up, GD&T, Failure Mode and Effect analysis (FMEA), etc.

  • Proficiency in product data management systems for document control.

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office tools

  • Working understanding of aerospace regulatory standards, regulations and certifications.

  • Strong technical English and written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and requirements.

  •  Design for six sigma (DFSS) green belt certified

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and switch focus efficiently

  • Ability to compose clear and concise written communication

     

     

    Ideal but not essential

     

  • 6+ years of experience in aerospace component design and development.

  • MEng degree, in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or similar

  • Understanding of electrical and electronic principles.

  • Experience with technical leadership of a major program.

  • Design experience with electro-mechanical products (motors, generators, electronic control systems)

  • Knowledge of aerospace hydraulic products, manufacturing techniques and materials.

  • Knowledge of analysis tools, boundary conditions, and constraints

  • Familiarity with continuous improvement tools such as value stream mapping, Kaizen,
