Product Line Manager -- Windsor, CT

Eaton’s Airport Lighting Products is currently seeking a Product Line Manager to join our team. This position is based at our Windsor, CT facility. 

Position Overview:

The Product Line Manager is responsible for directing and participating in the development and the administration of Product Marketing and Product Development functions for the Airport Lighting Business. The PLM owns the business unit’s Multi-Generation Product Plan and the associated vitality metrics.  In this role, you will develop and provide marketing information on current offerings, proposed new offerings, analysis of competitive offerings, as well as development of sales aids and promotional material.

In this function you will:
  • Prioritize, execute, and drive accountability across organization for long-term growth objectives and plans for product line

  • Manage entire product life cycle from new product introduction to obsolescence, collaborating across business to deliver business goals

  • Utilize VOC and partnering with global sales organization the PLM identifies new products for development and/or private branding, establishes functional specifications, market lead time requirements, and partners with operations and engineering to set product family cost out actions

  • Assess overall competitive position (price, features, performance) and leads business case development for improvement actions.  Facilitates cross functional team to meet initiative.

  • Define product roadmaps and realize product development based on Voice of Customer for new products and upgrades, transition and retire products, managing programs through PROLaunch

  • Manage product pricing, product profitability and accountable to deliver price realization

  • Participate in sizing markets, performs competitive gap analysis and determines product positioning strategies for regions globally. Determine competitive standing of current products in relation to price, features and performance.

  • Establish value propositions targeted to customers throughout value chain.

  • Provide technical training for selling organization and conducts customer technical presentations/seminars to drive and influence product specifications.

  • Lead preparation of catalogs, brochures, other collateral, online presence, trade shows, price lists, training aids, Marketing briefs, instruction sheets and promotional material for product lines, within budget

  • Resolve product inconsistencies arising from, but not limited to, manufacturing and engineering inquiries, changes in vendor supplies, and customer complaints.

  • Participate in market studies to aid in the collection and evaluation of market data on                    competition relative to new product development. (IIR)

  • Stay abreast of Intellectual Property policies, emerging technology competitive trends, and competitive product analyses (tear downs, benchmarking, product comparisons)

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Eaton has announced its intent to spin off its Lighting Business into publicly traded company (“SpinCo”).  This transaction is expected to be completed by the end of 2019 and this position is expected to remain with SpinCo. The compensation and benefits that will initially be offered for this position are based on Eaton’s plans, programs and practices. The Lighting Business is in the process of developing its total rewards philosophy, strategy and structure, including the design of its benefits and annual and long-term incentive plans that will take effect when SpinCo becomes a publicly traded company. If you are offered and accept this position and are actively employed by the Lighting Business when SpinCo becomes an independent, publicly traded company, you will be eligible to participate in SpinCo’s compensation, health, welfare, and retirement benefit plans and programs and should have no expectations that SpinCo’s plans and programs will mirror or be substantially similar to Eaton’s.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.

  •  A minimum of three years of related Commercial experience with engineered products.

  •  This position requires the use of information or access to technology which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR/EAR. ITAR/EAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without out company sponsorship, now or in the future.

  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position.  Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Windsor, CT will be considered.  Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

  • Master’s in Business Administration

  • Solid technical aptitude, ability for numerical analysis and knowledge of product application, product-market characteristics, factor affecting costs and identification of problem areas

  • Ability to problem solve, think analytically, and utilize broad technical know-how

  • Extensive product knowledge and the ability to utilize sound commercial and engineering practices to determine and make product adjustments to maintain competitive standing

Position Criteria:
  • Proven customer facing interfacing experience.

  • Proficient in Program and Project Management methodologies, processes and tools.

  • Working understanding of e-business, e-marketing tools and strategies.

  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Advanced Microsoft Office Excel skills and comfort using Microsoft Excel and Project.

  • Ability to drive results cross-functionally.
