Job Description

Eaton's Power Systems Division is currently seeking a Vice President of Operations.

Reporting to the President, Power Systems Division, the Vice President of Operations will be responsible for the Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Operational Excellence and Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) functions for Eaton’s Power Systems Division (PSD). The position impacts approximately $1.1B in revenue and 3,000 employees in 10 manufacturing sites in Wisconsin, New York, Texas, and South Carolina, USA, with two sites in Mexico.  This dynamic leader will be charged with driving superior operational performance and consistent lean processes across the business that have significant and measurable impact on productivity, customer satisfaction, quality and efficiency. In addition, this executive will be tasked with building high performance teams and developing talent to bolster organizational capability.

Essential functions include:


  • Proactively champion a culture focused on Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS), driving a zero-incident safety culture. Empower employees and drive accountability for EHS to all levels in the organization.
  • Create a culture of exceeding customer expectations, ensuring that the organization is highly responsive to customer needs and issues. Work with key stakeholders across several functions including finance, sales, engineering and operations to ensure achievement of end-to-end quality goals.
  • Develop short and long-term plans in alignment with the Power Systems Division’s strategic plan and annual profit plan objectives to drive superior operational performance and financial results.
  • Continuously improve operations through alignment with the Eaton Business System with a strong focus on driving a Lean Culture.
  • Demonstrate a leadership style that perpetuates the Eaton Values and Philosophy and the Eaton Code of Ethics.
  • Establish objectives and track key performance indicators across the organization. Ensure prompt and accurate reporting systems on all aspects of operations, leveraging EPM and balanced score card.
  • Drive cost out, meeting or exceeding profit plan targets.
  • Develop and execute strategic capital spending plans for operations to assure adequate capacity to meet growth objectives
  • Drive a high-performance workforce through effective talent management.  Attract, coach, mentor and develop strong leaders within the organization and share ownership with the plant managers in the development of future talent pipeline.  Together with each plant manager, provide leadership for plant based OPEX leaders and the organization through proactive and effective communications.
  • Working with the supply chain function: establish inventory plans by product family/site; proactively manage inventory to profit plan, driving improved and sustainable processes; execute the Supply Demand Planning (SIOP) process, driving ownership and collaboration across all stakeholder groups; generate forecasts that meet customer expectations and profit plan objectives. Develop and cultivate relationships with key suppliers (internal and external) to ensure high quality relationships and products.
  • Lead the logistics organization, working across the sector to ensure optimization of resources.
  • Drive change through improved organizational capability, providing leadership in recruiting, goal alignment, employee development, performance management and communication. Ensure motivation and retention of a high-performance management team and workforce.
  • Set appropriate staffing levels through the profit planning process. Proactively participate in staffing/headcount decisions for key positions in Operations and Power Systems Division.




 Basic Qualifications: 


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or related discipline.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in Manufacturing, Supply Chain, OPEX and/or related support functions.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct operational leadership experience with multiple plant responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Masters of Business Administration or other advanced degree is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in an "Engineered To Order" environment is highly preferred.

Additional Criteria:

  • Proven track record in building high performance teams, leading cross-functionally, developing and retaining employees, and driving organizational change.
  • Demonstrated success in driving zero incident safety culture, with employee ownership of EHS.
  • Knowledge of current technologies in manufacturing (assembly and fabrication), engineering, materials management/inventory control, distribution and logistics, purchasing, quality assurance systems processes and practices.
  • Strong financial and business acumen; prior profit and loss responsibility required.
  • Track record of successful leadership, performance results, organizational development and operational improvement.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with the process tools such as profit planning, strategic planning, Organizational Capability Assessment, phase gate development processes, Lean System/Six Sigma, Supply Chain Management, Fixed Capital Optimization, Quality Systems, and Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) processes is strongly preferred.
  • Strong collaborative skills with the proven ability to drive change and leadership ownership/accountability.

He/she will have experience in developing a strategy that covers a range of products and/or markets and encompasses the full range of organization implications and links with the series of initiatives and priorities that are compelling and logical for the business.

The ideal candidate will have shown the ability to support specific development needs of others and provide practical support to develop those needs with reasons and rationale by sharing not just what to do but why to do it. He/she will systematically and constructively gather individual development input from multiple sources to define development feedback. The candidate also will set specific individual development goals to build the capability.
