We are looking forward to a Lead Engineer - Data Scientist in Eaton India Innovation Center-Eaton Research Labs (ERL) based in Pune, India. Eaton’s Corporate Research & Technology Labs (CRTERL) focuses on the front end of innovation by:  conducting research to advance the state of the art, emphasizing cross-business impact technologies, and innovating to provide Eaton’s customers with safe, efficient, and reliable power management solutions. 


Your essential responsibilities:

  • Derive, interpret and effectively deliver the results of data analysis using visualization techniques, tools, custom applications, or by narrating stories about the solutions to business problems
  • Understand traditional and new data analysis methods that can build statistical models and discover patterns in data
  • Explore data, ask the right questions, and provide compelling findings
  • Utilize a broad range of techniques in machine learning, data mining, statistics, and big data interrogation methods
  • Provide work estimates and participate in design and implementation reviews
  • Develop and execute agile work plans for iterative and incremental project delivery
  • Work directly with business stakeholders, engineering, and test to create high quality solutions that solve end-user problems
  • Evaluate business requirements to determine potential solutions
  • Convert data science work, principles, benefits, and best practices across the enterprise
  • Assist other engineering teams with their data science initiatives

 

Qualifications


If you are:


  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. (preferred) in computer science, software engineering, statistics, applied mathematics, digital signal processing or related field.

  •  6+ years of progressive experience in developing and designing technology solutions

  •  5+ years of practical data science experience in the application of statistics, machine learning, and analytic approaches with a proven track record of solving critical business problems and uncovering new business opportunities

  • Extensive experience preparing big data infrastructures, integrating data from disparate systems, and cleansing data

  •  Solid academic or industry background in computer vision including image processing, deep network, and detection/tracking

  • Solid understanding of Python, R and associated tools (RStudio, pycharm, scikit-learn, numpy)

  • Working knowledge of Python and/or C++ and associated IDE’s (Eclipse, IntelliJ, etc.)

  • Working knowledge of Hive (or similar language) to perform ad hoc queries of large datasets

  • Working knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems and their associated development platforms

  • Ability to write complex queries that are accessible, secure, and perform in an optimized manner with an ability to output to different types of consumers and systems

  • Solid understanding of relational and non-relational database systems

  •  Basic understanding of data visualization tools such as Power BI and/or Tableau

  • Experience with Agile development methodologies and concepts

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively explain technical concepts

  • Abreast of upcoming data science tools, trends, and methodologies

  • Good judgment, time management, and decision-making skills

  • Experience in Design Thinking or human-centered methods to identify and creatively solve customer needs, through a holistic understanding of customer’s problem area

  • Advanced degree and/or specialization in related descipline (e.g. machine learning)

  • Knowledge of Hadoop and MapReduce

  • Knowledge of cloud development platforms such as Azure or AWS and their associated data science capabilities

  • Experience with visualization techniques for communication of large data sets
