Job Description

Eaton Corporation has an opening in the Industrial Sector Reliability, Maintainability, and Safety (RMS) CoE for an Engineering Specialist. This position is based at our Galesburg Michigan facility.


The primary function of this role is lead comprehensive system reliability and/or safety programs within Eaton’s Industrial Sector, focused on supporting Vehicle and eMobility programs.  This position is also responsible for driving deployment of new tools and processes within the organization (e.g., Design for Reliability (DfR), Design for Safety (DfS), or Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) deployment).

In this function you will:
  • Develop and lead comprehensive system reliability and safety program plans.  Track and report progress on program deliverables, and develop recommendations for program gate review decisions.

  • Quantify system reliability and safety requirements based on customer wants/needs, and competitive benchmarking information.  Allocate reliability and safety requirements to subsystems and components.

  • Build system-level reliability models based on system architecture and assessments of component reliability.

  • Perform system safety analysis per vehicle safety standards (ISO 26262), or industrial safety standards (IEC 62061 or ISO 15998).

  • Lead program technical risk management processes – including risk logs, boundary diagram, P-Diagram, and Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), promoting early identification and resolution of risk based on knowledge of physics of failure.

  • Define and execute system and component design validation plans and reports (DVP&R), including accelerated life testing and life test data analysis.  Leading a comprehensive risk management process – including leading DFMEA, robustness models (P-diagram), and a program risk management log, promoting early identification and resolution of risk.

  • Define and manage a system reliability growth plan, leveraging design analysis methods and test methods. 

  • Lead a Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) process, driving continuous improvement through a statistical problem solving approach.

  • Present reliability program status to internal and external customers.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in a technical role

  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position.  Only candidates within a 50 mile radius of the work location will be considered

Preferred qualifications:
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in advanced (R&D) engineering or new product development programs

  • Experience with electrical systems preferred
Position Criteria:
  • Knowledge of ISO-26262, Vehicle Embedded Systems Safety (Certification preferred)

  • Knowledge of vehicle systems (electronics / controls experience preferred)

  • Applied Statistical tools knowledge (DoE, Weibull, Minitab)

  • Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) Greenbelt certification (Black Belt preferred)

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills (8D, RedX, DMAIC Six Sigma)
