Job Description

Eaton’s Lighting Division has an immediate opening for an Human Resources Co-op position at the Mississauga facility. This will be a 12-18 month co-op.

 

Reporting to the Regional Human Resources Manager, the primary role of the Human Resources Co-op is to support the HR team in the implementation and administration of HR programs and initiatives to support business objectives and to maintain positive employee relations. This is a highly visible position that includes daily contact with employees, supervisors, management and representatives of external agencies.  


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage onboarding process, including processing of new hire paperwork, orientation training, new hire announcements.

  • Assist employees and managers with inquiries and direct them to appropriate resources.

  • Coordinate the talent acquisition process, including screening and selection, processing offer letters, background checks, and system set-up.

  • Manage employee data files and processing of employment status changes such as leaves, promotions, terminations etc. and provide various reports through HR Services Team and Oracle HRIS system.

  • Track and administer process for contingent workforce.

  • Facilitate internal training initiatives by partnering with local management to identify and/or source appropriate internal/external trainings.

  • Assist in driving the HR Talent Management strategy for building organizational capability and performance management.

  • Lead the employee engagement initiatives and events such as Diversity Days, Wellness Week, United Way Campaign etc.

  • Create and deploy site communications including employee announcements and site events.

  • Coordinate with facilities management and security to manage access fobs and ID cards.

  • Provide back-up assistance for reception (infrequently).

  • Work with Payroll Coordinator ensuring data integrity of weekly payroll.

  • Perform all job functions with adherence to Eaton's Philosophy and Values as well as the Safety and Environmental standards.

  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Must be enrolled in a university program or college postgraduate certificate program focusing on Human Resources.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship.

  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates residing within 80 kilometers of Mississauga, ON, Canada facility will be considered.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Communications and/or event planning experience.

 

Position Criteria:

  • Excellent PC skills, including MS office (Word, Excel and Power Point) and Internet.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Acute attention to detail.
  • Proactive in assisting the team as needed.

  • High energy and able to keep up with heavy workload in a fast-paced environment.

  • Adaptable to change and willing to be flexible and change priorities at a moment’s notice.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity.

  • Customer service oriented.
  • Ability to learn new systems and concepts quickly.

  • Adept at multi-tasking and prioritizing workload.

  • Effective in working both as a team member, as well as independently.
