Job Description

Eaton’s Lighting Division is seeking a Software Marketing Co-op to work closely with our software development team and our software product owner team located in Mississauga, Ontario.

 

This is a hands-on software development/testing role that will directly contribute to the development of our next generation of enterprise software lighting control products using various web technologies not limited to Java, Spring, JavaScript, HTML 5,CSS, and Micro Services.

In this role, you will be sharing your time between the software engineering and product marketing team (30-70 split). This will be a 15 month co-op.

 

With the product marketing team, you will be working closely with our software product owners on proof of concepts that will allow the product owner team to evaluate the potential of new solutions.

 

With the software engineering team, you will be working in a dynamic and fast paced team environment, using your developer skills to deliver new commercial products.

 

You will be involved in the complete development life cycle, seeing your design evolve from technical specification into a finished product. Detailed technical collaboration with the full cross-functional development team will require strong ongoing communication. Maintaining our market leading position will challenge your creativity and design skills.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Product Owner Tasks (30% of your time)
  • Work with software product owners to develop new software proof of concepts based on Eaton’s connected lighting platform.

  • Maintain the Field Integration Test environment used by the PO to demonstrate new builds

  • Demonstrate the proof of concepts to the business stakeholders

  • Development Team Tasks (70% of your time)
  • Collaborate with analysts and designers in the development and initiation of new connected lighting platform.

  • Learn to write, translate, and code software programs, tests, test programs and applications according to specifications.

  • Work with experienced developers to research and identify 3rd party architectures, products, tools and frameworks that can be leveraged to create solutions that best meet technical and functional requirements.

  • Analyze risk and report problems in meeting technical and functional requirements.

  • Work with senior developers to analyze alternatives, develop proofs-of-concepts, and document results (including engineering notes, issues and lessons learned).

  • Test the performance and scalability of solutions.

  • Use industry standards and best practices to create and validate software that best support customer requirements.

  • Participate in the review of software designs, implementations and documentation.

  • Ensure that security and quality assurance best practices are followed throughout the entire software development life cycle.

  • Participate in the deployment of solutions to integration and test environments.

  • Run and monitor performance tests on new and existing software for the purposes of correcting mistakes, isolating areas for improvement, and general debugging.

  • Develop an awareness of programming and design alternatives.

  • Liaise with company’s software and hardware team for prompt rectification of any problems or emergencies.

  • Liaise with network administrators, systems analysts, programmers, and other software engineers to resolve any defects in products or company systems.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Actively enrolled full-time pursuing a University Degree in Engineering.

  • All applicants must possess a GPA of 2.5 based on a 4.0 scale at the time of application (exceptions will be considered with substantial justification).

  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship.

  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates residing within 80 kilometers of Mississauga, ON, Canada facility will be considered.

  • Must have strong troubleshooting skills and comfortable setting up a test environment composed of electronic devices.

  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills and be able to work effectively and build relationships with others.
