Position Overview:

The Advanced Technology Manager (ATM) is a member of the Hydraulics Group Engineering leadership team and reports directly to the VP/CTO. This position is responsible for all aspects of managing the advanced technology team and project portfolio for the hydraulics and filtration businesses. The ATM leads and executes innovation activities including research, design, development and continuous improvement to meet customer needs. This position directly interfaces with business partners (Product Management, Engineering, and Program Management) for technology strategies, application development, problem solving and product improvement initiatives. The ATM is responsible for new and ongoing technology projects for the HYD Business and Filtration to ensure achievement of the organization’s profit plan, strategic plan, growth objectives and technology roadmaps. The ATM is also responsible to plan, establish and manage relationships with external research partners (e.g. Universities and National Labs) and early-adopting customers (e.g. Gov’t agencies) in order to engage in open innovation type developments funded and/or co-funded by third parties.

 

In addition, the ATM will provide engineering leadership to the Advanced Technology team in terms of management, guidance, coaching and development of employees: selection and retention of employees; and will act as a mentor within the organization. In addition, the position provides technical as well as organizational leadership and direction for technology objectives. The ATM stimulates the search for creative applications of technologies in addition to establishing a vision of technology platforms which can create opportunities for the Hydraulics Group.

 
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Establish, develop and execute advanced technology projects globally (North American, Europe, India and China). Lead and direct advanced technology activities for the Hydraulics and Filtration businesses with progress toward stated goals and objectives. 

  • Lead and direct research activities for the Hydraulics and Filtration businesses, assuring core technologies, emerging technology trends, future product and solutions development and technical customer support are addressed.

  • Provide leadership in developing innovative platforms and applications to grow and strengthen Eaton's innovation funnel.

  • Participate with leadership team and staff members in the development and formulation of long and short-range planning, policies, programs and objectives.

  • Create a performance-based culture encouraging the innovation team to develop measurable goals and objectives that support Hydraulics Group business strategies. Attract, coach, mentor and facilitate growth of strong leaders within the organization & share ownership in developing future talent pipeline

  • Stay abreast of product and technology patent and intellectual property management processes.

  • Interface, collaborate and coordinate with other functions (business engineering, marketing, etc., up to and including the executive level) across the globe, customers, suppliers, etc. to ensure smooth introduction of new technologies, products, and solutions.

  • Familiarity and integration of Eaton business tools into the organization including AgileStarts™, EBS, DFSS, Reliability planning etc.

  • Create and manage relationships with external research partners (e.g. Universities, National Labs), early-adopting customers (e.g. Gov’t agencies) and organizations to drive open innovation and third-party funding.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering form an accredited institution

  • Minimum 10 years of related engineering experience in Hydraulic systems and solutions

  • Minimum 7 years of management and people experience

 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ideal candidate will have deep understanding of advanced controls methods in complex hydraulic systems with both dynamical and finite states. Deep understanding of software-enabled and embedded controls development issues, especially in the context of model-based and hardware-in-loop control algorithm and software development processes.

  • Demonstrated excellence in theoretical and applied hydraulic systems, with significant experience with both physics-based and data-driven modeling and simulation techniques.

  • Strong business acumen with the ability to formulate compelling value propositions and understand how to drive solutions to commercialization.
