Job Description

Eaton’s Electrical Product Group is seeking a Director of Operational Excellence & Manufacturing Strategy for its Crouse-Hinds Division.  The Director of Operational Excellence & Manufacturing Strategy position will be located at its Syracuse, NY facility.


Position Overview :

This position will be fully responsible for driving operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives and projects as well as EBS across all business factories and the Operations function. Operational excellence includes operational efficiency initiatives and tools, key performance indicators, standardization projects and establishing an effective productivity global management operating system.


This role is also fully responsible for developing E2E Manufacturing strategy for the Business that drives footprint optimization and developing and executing complex transformation projects. The projects include Acquisition Integrations, Supplier resourcing, Operations Transformation, and Strategic Sourcing initiatives globally. This position reports directly to the Global VP of Operations.


The incumbent must possess strong knowledge of operations, manufacturing processes and techniques, quality procedures, and information systems. The incumbent must actively lead change initiatives, coordinate ongoing lean training to all division employees and operate with wide latitude for actions and decisions.


This position will lead the Division in identification, evaluation, selection and execution of all Division global manufacturing footprint consolidation activities. The incumbent will also be expected to contribute significantly to strategic planning process by providing impact analysis regarding optimized supply chain opportunities and customer needs.

Essential Functions:

·         Process Excellence

o    You will lead the development and implementation of an effective Management Operating System to align and support performance management and effective escalation.

o    You will partner with Operations and factories to develop and deploy operational efficiency tools that will help drive productivity and simplify our manufacturing process.

o    You will design and standardizes factory dashboards and KPI’s to match business and factory needs.

o    You will work and partner with AME to define and develop capacity management and utilization tools and processes at factory level to maximize site efficiency.

o    You will support and manage PP/STRAT process for the Operations function.

o    You will coordinate EBS deployment and continuous improvement training.

o    You will continuously improve and document operations processes through implementation of six sigma tools, best practices, experiences, etc.

·         Operations

o    You will lead Productivity and continuous improvement management operating system and project pipeline generation process in strong partnership with factories, operations and business functions.

o    You will lead and manage planning, facilitation and completion of continuous improvement and transition projects to support YoY cost productivity in line with business objectives.

o    You will develop, lead and support Operations performance management reporting processes and tools. You will lead and participate in regular business and factory performance reviews.

o    You will lead and coordinate crisis management task force teams.

o    You will define and deploy standardization initiatives and operational compliance standards.

o    You will use Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing principles to implement corrective and improvement actions for operational issues.

·         Strategy

o    You will assist Operations and Business team with the development and implementation of Global Manufacturing strategies to align and support the long-term strategy of the Business.

o    You will partner with AME and Business team to develop and define Innovation strategy which includes Core/Non-Core. You will identify opportunities for Best Value Analysis and manage project portfolio, pipeline and execution.

o    You will perform financial modeling for projects to assist in transitions scenarios.

o    You ill lead the development of business focused manufacturing strategy and support the development of the overall Operations strategic plan. You will ensure strategic alignment with Business Team, Engineering, Customer & Product Support and other functional strategies.

o    You will be an active participant in M&A due diligence.

·         Project Execution

o    You will ensure adherence to the Standard Transitions Process for all transition projects.

o    You will lead the transition project teams responsible for process and product analyses, characterization methods, and hidden factory capture.  These transitions teams will involve team members from across different functions e.g. ISC, Sourcing, IT, Logistics, Sales, Marketing and multiple locations

o    You will ensure projects are executed and completed on time, within budget, with associated cost savings and zero customer impact (Delivery and Quality).

o    You will use Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing principles to implement corrective and improvement actions during the transition process

o    You will lead and participate in regular project status reviews with business leadership. You will escalate issues in a timely manner to get resolution.

o    You will be responsible for project key performance indicators.

o    You will continuously improve and document the operations transition process through implementation of six sigma tools, best practices, experiences, etc.

Basic Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering or related field

·         10 years of operations management and lean manufacturing experience

·         5 years of experience managing people

·         5 years of experience working with global teams

·         Must be able to work in the US without company sponsorship


Preferred Qualifications:

·         Master’s in Business Administration preferred

·         Experience in both unionized and non-unionized manufacturing environments

·         Experience developing a strategic vision, business case, and roadmap

·         Experience in Phase Gate process management

·         Proven track record of successful implementation of cost savings initiatives and processes
