Eaton’s Electrical Engineering Services & Systems division is currently seeking a Power Systems Automation Specialist to join our team. This position is based at our Calgary AB or Edmonton AB, Canada facility.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide on-site implementation of Power Management and mission critical monitoring and control systems including Power Xpert, Foreseer, PowerNet and next generation Power Monitoring platforms.  Also, you will be responsible for providing applied engineering and consultation to customers in the areas of system integration, installation, start-up, maintenance, repair, training and modification of power management control and mission critical systems.

  • You will design, install, and service windows based electrical power monitoring systems.
  • You will design, program, and implement PLC based control systems for power distribution, breaker control, Main-Tie-Main transfer systems, generator control, and load shedding/peak shaving schemes.
  • You will develop and commission graphical user interface systems.
  • You will troubleshoot and provide customer support for advanced control and monitoring systems.
  • You will identify potential business opportunities with new and future customers.
  • You will support sales in quoting turnkey power monitoring and control system projects.
  • You will perform all job functions with adherence to Eaton’s Values and Philosophy, as well as Safety and Environmental standards.
  • You will work with substation IED’s, protection relays, metering, event recorders, time synchronization etc.
  • You will be expected to be work with power quality meters, trip units, protective relays and UPS.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working with Power Management, Power Control, Mission Critical, or Building Management Systems.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship.
  • No relocation is provided. Only candidates that reside within 80km of Edmonton or Calgary AB Canada will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • P Eng
  • Experience with electrical power systems
Position Success Criteria :
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical aptitude and complex problem solving skills. 
  • Knowledge and competency with SQL Server and databases.
  • Knowledge of power quality meters, trip units, protective relays and UPS.
  • Intermediate Networking skills including the ability to troubleshoot network hardware and interfaces, including Ethernet and Fiber.
  • Advanced understanding of Programmable Logic Control (PLC) systems.
  • Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, BACnet, DNP3, SNMP, OPC, DDE, TCP/IP, and IEC 61850.
  • Commissioning experience
  • Advanced understanding of Programmable Logic Control (PLC) systems.
  • Advanced understanding of electrical control schematics and power system one-line drawings.
  • Experience with Human Machine Interface (HMI) software and power monitoring software packages.
