Eaton’s Power and Motion Controls Division is currently seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Hydraulics Group headquarters, located in Eden Prairie, MN.


The Lead Systems Engineer will be joining the Global Platform Solutions team. This team operates on the cutting edge of hydraulic systems, creating advanced system solutions for intelligent machines using hydraulics, electronics, controls, and software.


The Lead Systems Engineer will be responsible for developing advanced mechatronic solutions for customer applications and key internal platforms with advanced hydraulic components and controls.  The engineer will model, implement, evaluate, validate, and troubleshoot solutions in both the digital domain and physical demonstrators to ensure technical success.  Development of production quality controls, fault handling, and documentation is required to ensure customer wants and needs are met during the commercialization process. The job will require significant interface with internal Eaton customers and Eaton personnel in the global regions. The engineer must have a proven track record of successful outcomes on mechatronics projects

  • You will gather, internalize, translate, and document customer input and requirements for projects and technologies.
  • You will develops hydraulic and control architectures and embedded code for advanced systems that meet or exceed customer expectations relative to the level of maturity of the system.
  • You will drive to organize and complete projects using project management methodologies.
  • You will participate in model development of dynamic platform simulations to predict performance, select component sizes, and serve as a controls verification/development tool.

  • You will lead subsystem or vehicle testing and integration activities for baseline testing and solution integration and commissioning.
  • You will solve issues that arise during development with thorough and creative solutions.  Produces intellectual property that is unique and innovative to the industry.
  • You will take initiative to introduce new methods to improve current processes/procedures and the development of internal reference materials. 
  • You will perform effective risk analysis and implements actions into product and projects.
  • You will create effective presentation material to communicate complex technical proposals and ideas (such as white papers, webinars, and publications).
  • You will anticipate business drivers and uses these to proactively manage project priorities.
  • You will supervise and coordinate efforts of teams on multiple complex projects/programs involving multiple components.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 5 years of technical experience with mechatronic and/or controls systems. 
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship now or in the future
  • No relocation offered for this role. All candidates considered must live within 50 miles of Eden Prairie, MN

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • 3 years of experience with embedded controls development on mechatronic systems
  • 2 years of dynamic modeling experience (prefer Simulink or AMESim)
  • 2 years of hands-on experience with platform machine architecture design and implementation
  • 2 years of project management experience across a global organization
  • DFSS Green belt certification
  • Experience working with a global team
  • Experience with functional safety requirements and systems

Position Criteria:

  • Ability to develop and apply mechatronic solutions for specialty applications.
  • The ability to create math models for fluid power components and/or systems, and use these in a simulation framework.
  • Ability to span both virtual and physical domains (hands on) while implementing solutions.
  • Knowledge of a variety of fluid power components and systems.
  • Comfort and effectiveness in working with customers, sales, marketing, technicians, and others.
  • Strong project management, planning, and reporting skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving competency.
