Eaton’s Hydraulics Group is currently seeking an Engineering Manager for our facility in Van Wert OH.   

The Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading a team of various levels Engineers and/or Technicians.  As the Engineering Manager, you are responsible for APEX, group measures, budget, setting work direction, exercising sound Engineering judgment, and approval of engineering design documentation and procedures. Specifically, this position is responsible for Current Product Engineering for Fluid Conveyance Americas.

In this function you will:
  • Utilize sound Engineering judgment to create, apply and document drawings, Engineering Standards, test reports, FMEA’s, etc.  Project responsibilities include Design Reviews, Project Reviews, RPS, Project Management, Change Board participation, Product Deviations, Supplier Integrations, etc.

  • Lead the development of Strategic Plan, Program Schedules and budget needs in accordance with the profit and strategic plans of the Global Hydraulics FC Division for the department and for cost out programs, SCM sourcing/resourcing and product rationalizations.

  • Initiate and oversee the development and approval of new or revised product specifications in accordance with market needs and reliability requirements.

  • Support new product design reviews with the product development team and provide pertinent information to the manufacturing and marketing functions for existing products.

  • Evaluate all means and sources of information to assure manufacturability, cost effectiveness, robustness and reliability of all product lines within FC Americas, with the goal of meeting cost out objectives for the organization.

  • Maintain product design control; Decide on the technical feasibility to assure proper manufacturability of the product design within available resources and machine tools.

  • Establish Scorecard measures to review progress, evaluate results, and initiate change.

  • Initiate and promote the generation of new products and processes to improve group efficiency and maintain and defend existing patents that cover NA Fluid Conveyance Products.  This includes the protection of all Global Hydraulics FC Intellectual Property.

  • Review customer returned units, identify the problem areas, and suggest corrective action and implement action as requested by the Quality/Product Reliability department.

  • Limit Eaton’s exposure to Product Liability by ensuring sound Engineering practices. 

  • Provide support to Eaton Legal and Claims departments for product claims and product liability defense.  Maintain and further the ability to prevent or defend such claims in product design, documentation, literature and production.

  • Maintain an Engineering organizational structure that supports the FC Engineering Strategy as well as the local geographic needs.

  • Prepare and manage a budget which allows the Regional Engineering group to advance while also falling within profit plan expectations.

  • Ensure performance appraisals are conducted and guide the professional development of all subordinates in accordance with APEX.  Additionally, evaluate and optimize skill sets for each employee.

  • Maintain close liaison with Regional Operations and NPD during the development and maintenance of products to insure smooth introductions, conformance to product specifications, and year over year cost outs.

  • Manage the adherence to standards, quality of output, productivity and methods of the America’s Current Product Engineering group, ensuring that the requirements defined by ES 4043 are maintained and supported.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited institution  

  • Minimum 5 years of Product Engineering experience
  • This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR); all applicants must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, political asylee or refugee

Preferred qualifications:
  • Detailed understanding of Finance and Accounting in support of cost out and rationalization.

  • A thorough technical knowledge of the product lines the incumbent is managing, that includes product design, test and evaluation, end product use, and the manufacturing methods and processes.

  • An understanding of the current strategic plans of the Hydraulics and Fluid Conveyance Groups.

  • Ability to manage subordinates in remote and global locations.

  • Ability to work with functions outside of engineering for the common good of Eaton.

  • Training in Product Liability prevention and management – understanding of legal issues.

  • The ability to effectively supervise people and motivate subordinates, while maintaining organizational harmony and meeting scheduled deadlines.
