Job Description

Eaton’s Aerospace division is currently seeking a Buyer to join our team. This position is based at our Grand Rapids, MI location.

Essential Functions:

·       Purchase assigned commodities, ensuring quality, delivery and specification compliance at the lowest possible cost.

·       Work with Strategic sourcing group to source new suppliers, negotiate terms/conditions, develop commodity strategy, analyze trends, expedite orders.   Promote competitive bidding and evaluate quotations. Assure that purchase orders are awarded in a legal and ethical manner. Develop and improve long-term supplier relations.

·       Notify vendors regarding print, specifications, delivery, and other requirements changes. Communicate delivery changes to affected departments. Measure and evaluate supplier performance.

·       Team building activities are required for the alignment of planning, supply chain management activities and implementation of strategic initiatives aligned with the Eaton Business System.

·       Coordinate all supplier related actions as required with other departments. Promote good communications between all functional areas and the outside business world.

·       Evaluate current and potential sources of supply to identify and prioritize areas requiring new sources of supply or performance improvement.

·       Arrange for disposal of surplus material as required.

·       Establish and maintain a continuing cost reduction program resulting in improved costs on sub-contracted commodities.  Apply knowledge of root cause analysis, total cost analysis, the lean enterprise and Six Sigma tools to the development of a high performance supply base.

·       Assure that government mandated conditions are included in contracts/purchase orders; and that suppliers comply them with.

·       Other duties as assigned.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

·    Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or APICs certification required.

  • Minimum 1 year experience in supply chain management in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future.
  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee
  • No relocation benefit is offered for this position.


Preferred Qualifications: (Not required to be qualified for the role)

  • MS/MBA is preferred.
  • Position requires a working knowledge of commodities purchasing, supply sources, contracting methods and strategies, and company products and components. Analytical ability to prepare supplier performance reports, cost/price analyses, and other performance measures.
  • Knowledge of government procurement regulations.
  • Knowledge of company purchasing forms, policies and procedures related to the purchasing function, and Company organization and departmental relationships.
  • Human relations skills to communicate with supervisory and other Company personnel and supplier representatives through personal contact and telephone conversation, to select sources of supply, negotiate prices or prepare requests for bids, discuss and transmit requirements and specifications, obtain quotations on price and delivery, finalize purchase forms and contracts, and ascertain supplier ability to fulfill commitments.
