Job Description

Eaton Corporation of Shanghai, China an opening for a Senior Electrical Engineer. This position will work in China but have a functional report to the Industrial Sector Software Electronics Controls Center of Excellence (SwEC CoE) Galesburg, MI USA. The primary function of  this  Senior Electrical Engineer is to be responsible for the development and application of electronic systems to light, medium and heavy duty vehicle automated mechanical transmission products and hybrid and EV Bus systems. This individual will deliver solutions to challenging technical issues in several new products and will also engineering improvements for existing products.


The essential functions of this position include:

·          Requirements analysis, hardware specification, design, analysis, supplier management, integration, testing and validation of these embedded real-time systems

·          Working with suppliers, internal laboratories and test track facilities to ensure the successful completion of product development and validation testing

·          Failure investigation and root cause analysis for both current products and new products in development

·          Evaluation of new technology sensors, actuators and other electronic products

·          Integrates electronic components into powertrain electrical subsystems in collaboration with the product systems engineers

·          Identification of process improvements

Identification and implementation of product cost reduction and reliability improvements


Minimum Requirements:

·          Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or  Mechatronic engineering from an accredited university with 5+ years engineering experience

·          Be able to demonstrate reading, writing, and speaking English language with a high level of fluency

Preferred Qualifications and Work Experience:

·          Advanced Degree – Master’s Degree in Electrical or Mechatronic engineering

·          Five or more years of experience in the commercial vehicle or automotive industry

·          Experience with Commercial Vehicle, Automotive or Aerospace embedded control systems

·          Experience in requirements processes, writing specifications, and development of vehicle electrical system, electronic control units, sensors and actuators

·          Experience in Product Life Cycle Management of Electronics

·          Experience in the design, integration, and testing of embedded real-time systems

·          Experience with 16 and 32 bit embedded microprocessor control units

·          Training in Design for Six Sigma tools and processes (DFSS)

·          Successful demonstration of use of Design for Six Sigma tools in product development

·          Electronics manufacturing quality

·          Demonstrated strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills

·          Electronic control of hydraulic and pneumatic valves

·          Foundational knowledge of high current brushless motor drives

·          Data acquisition systems, such as IMC or ETAS.

·          Automated test program development in LabVIEW

·          Control algorithm development in Matlab/Simulink/RTW

·          Schematic capture and simulation with Cadence ORCAD, PSPICE simulation

·          Demonstrated strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills

·          Working knowledge of ETAS-INCA

·          Working knowledge of CAN vehicle networking - ideally J1939

·          Working knowledge of CAN communication analyzer tools (e.g. CANalyzer and CANape)

·          The ideal candidate will have at least two years engineering experience in one or more of the following domains – microelectronics, power electronics, sensor technologies, embedded controls, motor controls, RF/communications electronics, or microcontroller interface.
