Job Description

Primary function:
This position provides environmental, health, safety, and security leadership to the Site.  Individual is accountable for: directing EHS activities at his/her location(s); establishing EHS objectives and targets; internal reporting of EHS performance; communication of national, area, and local regulatory requirements, and; ensuring documents are available in the local languages.  Position is responsible for: maintaining site ISO/OHSAS certifications; assuring accurate and complete EHS reporting of metrics; assuring closure of MESH and regulatory agency findings on a timely basis; completion of required training for EHS personnel; managing interfaces with the public and governmental authorities with adverse findings and enforcement actions; directing actions during crises; site security, creating a strong EHS culture that engages employees throughout the site in EHS teams and processes.

Essential Functions
  • Manages and directs site in achieving EHS targets & objectives.  Directs development, maintenance, and achievement of goals in support of corporate and business group EHS strategic initiatives.
  •  Coordinate with Engineering/Manufacturing Departments the proper process for installation of new equipment or production lines, based on the MESH guide line.
  • Facilitates risk assessment at the location to identify critical EHS hazards and aspects.  Works with leadership team to create targets and objectives based on key EHS risks (annually).
  • Determines appropriate leading and lagging indicators to track performance against targets and objectives.
  • Oversees construction and repair projects.
  • Supports creation of EHS goals for the site manager and appropriate activity based goals for the leadership team, functional managers, and front-line supervisors to drive EHS culture, compliance, and results.
  • Supervise all Safety and Environmental activities.
  • Formulates and recommends engineering policies and technical work in accordance with project objectives in all related EHS.
  • Drives and promotes zero incident EHS culture throughout site.
  • Creates and facilitates EHS engagement through EHS teams and committees needed to accomplish the established targets and objectives for the year
  • Responsible and Site Leader for MESH and MESH Prism systems with full compliance towards the Site.  Response to actions and processes on time and manage actions accordingly.
  • Works with leadership team and MESH element champions to complete an annual evaluation of compliance for EHS country, state, and local regulations. In addition, complete the MESH self-assessment and update in MESH suite. 
  • Identify needs of trainings, to ensure legal and EHS compliance and support plant general training plan.
  • Work with site leadership team and facilities to ensure that all key EHS operational controls are in place, on a PM program, and that EHS action items are resolved on a timely basis.
  • Supervise assigned team and contractors.
  • Assure compliance with Mesh and environmental laws.
  • Industrial hygiene - Identify sources of explosion, monitor and control.       Education to affected employees. Keep records.
  • Noise exposure - Identify sources, develop engineering controls, program implementation. Education to employees.
  • Machine Guarding - Evaluate new existing equipment, develop guarding and education to employees, include lockout & tag out.
  • Fire prevention - Keep surveillance of fire suppression equipment inspections (internal & external). Abatement  of findings. Firefighting training for employees.
  • Hazard Communication - Evaluate all SDS and communicate hazard to employees. Keep control of documents.
  • Pressure Vessels and Overhead Cranes - Coordinate inspections. Keep  records.
  • Emergency Preparedness Procedure and Drills.
  • Personal Protection Equipment - Identify need, purchase and control.
  • Ergonomics - Permanent member of the Team.
  • Safety Steering Committee – Support inspections strategy and members training.
  • Contractors - Coordinate projects, gather safety and insurance data.
  • External Contacts with governmental offices such as:                   
    • Fire Department (Inspection and Coordination)
    • Estate Police (Coordination)
    • Workers Compensation (Inspection)
    • PRIDCO (Liason and inspection)
    • Department of Health (Inspections)


Education: Bachelor Degree in Engineering or Industrial Health and Safety or related field.
Experience:  Minimum  Five (5) – seven (7) years of experience in leading EHS efforts in manufacturing environment.
