Eaton’s Aerospace Fluid  Electrical Distribution division is seeking a Senior Joints Engineer to join our team. The position will be based at our Beltsville, MD facility.
The Senior Joints Engineer is responsible for accomplishing the design, development, qualification, and release of new or existing production hardware products for aircraft fluid conveyance joints. The role requires the ability to apply sound engineering standards, practical problem solving, and Eaton engineering tools in an organized and timely way. Projects will range from iR&D through product development, qualification, and sustaining engineering.

  • You will develop new products from concept level, through its validation and qualification cycle for aircraft applications, following applicable regulatory and industry standards, Phase Gate Project process and Engineering Standard processes, utilizing CAD 3D modeling techniques.
  • You will respond to Sustaining Engineering issues, developing timely, cost effective solutions to product life cycle problems.
  • You will develop product concepts, guide or support innovation events, and iR&D activities.
  • You will prepare Engineering inputs to customer proposals, creating solutions and estimating materials, testing costs and Engineering labor.
  • You will perform mechanical design and dimensional testing. Perform preliminary structural, thermal, dynamic, and performance testing for design validation. Interface effectively with applicable COE resources to accomplish complete product testing.
  • You will define test procedures and setups for development, acceptance, and qualification testing. Coordinate with Test Labs, monitor testing and test data to assure compliance to the established requirements. Review and approve test reports.
  • You will assist with failure testing examinations and Failure Testing Reports (FAR) of test findings and field issues.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Mechanical design experience. 
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future.
  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates that currently reside within the immediate geographical area of Beltsville, MD 20705 will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Three years of experience in mechanical design of sealed conveyance components or systems (tubes, ducting, rigid and flexible joints and couplers, flanges).
  • Understanding of fluid conveyance related products, manufacturing techniques, and material science.
  • Support product manufacturing through resolutions of Engineering Change Requests.
Position Success Criteria:
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Develop and release Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP’s), Qualification Test Plans (QTP’s), and support Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) conformity efforts, and manage all Failure Reporting and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) activities with the customer during qualification test program.
  • Ability to effectively document and present results of technical activities. Design, test and optimize products capable of meeting customer requirements and industry standards through the use of existing, modified, and/or new designs.
  • Contribute to successful project completion by participating in the resolution of issues such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard material, and difficult coordination issues.
  • Proficiency in CATIA v5 and PROEngineer Wildfire.
