Eaton’s Electrical Division is currently seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Tualatin, OR facility.
The Lead Mechanical Engineer leads the design, development, testing, technical documentation, and launch of new products and extensions to existing product lines. Leads and participates in requirements analysis, design reviews and other team development processes. Keeps abreast of new and emerging technologies and materials and uses CAD software tools to design and analyze product integrity in order to facilitate rapid deployment.

  • You will support the review of product requirements specification based on input from customer OEMs
  • You will generate (when necessary) the product requirements specification from the Voice of Customer (VOC) input
  • You will follow the product spec, design, development new and innovative products
  • You will prepare for, present, and participate in formal and informal design review activities
  • You will conduct testing of all new products in accordance with Eaton standards and customer requirements
  • You will complete appropriate technical documentation for new product development and plant introductions
  • You will prepare for, present, and participate in formal and informal design review activities
  • You will launch new product line extensions following a stage-gate process (i.e., PROLaunch)
  • You will investigate and analyze new materials and their appropriate use within our product line
  • You will create simulation models to predict structural, fatigue, vibration, thermal, and flow performance of new products in development
  • You will conduct detailed analysis of tolerance stacks to ensure efficient assembly and reliable product performance
  • You will guide the day-to-day activities of the design and drafting team
  • You will successfully support contractors either co-located or at international locations
  • You will establish and maintain a collaborative working relationship with key customers and vendors

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in new product development in electrical and electromechanical systems.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
  • Relocation is not offered for this position. Only candidates residing within a 50 mile radius of Tualatin, OR will be considered.
  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).  All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR.  ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
 Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to design with and utilize the features of SolidWorks, SolidWorks Simulation, AutoCAD or other mechanical design tools.
  • Knowledge of injection mold and stamping component design.
  • Knowledge of Power Electronics packaging
  • Knowledge of thermal modeling
  • Experienced with current GD&T practices
  • Proven ability to lead a team to complete projects on time and on budget.
  • Good understanding of commercial vehicle markets is preferred
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and constantly changing customer market environment
  • Extensive knowledge of a wide variety of electromechanical devices and the processes required to assemble them
  • Ability to utilize specialized techniques for development to launch process improvements including development stage gate processes and Design For Six Sigma tools.
  • Ability to research and design within industry standards (SAE, ISO, MIL, & ISO TS16949)
  • Knowledge of environmental and material restrictions (RoHS, REACH, etc.)
