Job Description

The primary responsibility of Lead Engineer role is to assess technical and commercial feasibility and execution of technically complex projects related to Heavy Duty, Medium Duty Angle spring and Diaphragm spring clutch components with end to end ownership leveraging Value Analysis methodology with cost out as a focus. The incumbent needs to have an in-depth knowledge of requirements related to clutch design and application, including duty cycle attributes. The incumbent needs to have an ability to develop design guidelines for clutch components along with an ability to develop test protocols for new clutch systems.

 

The incumbent needs to play technical leadership role on multiple projects in parallel and collaborate with cross functional team members across various regions and functions like supply chain, project management, test lab and manufacturing plant. The incumbent should have sound analytical skills to leverage analysis first approach to minimize verification testing and have hands on knowledge on design for six sigma principles to identify and mitigate technical risks at an early stage of product development to develop robust products that meets customer requirements and specification.

 

Essential Function:

 

A.            Lead and implement technically high complexity Value Analysis projects for Angle spring and Diaphragm spring clutch and its components like flywheel ring and strap assembly, pressure plate, pressure spring, intermediate plate, damper spring, cushion disc etc. with end to end responsibility right from design, product build, validation testing and its implementation.

B.            Lead teardown and benchmarking events to generate technically and commercially feasible ideas to strengthen the idea funnel.

C.            Demonstrate and leverage knowledge on engineering fundamentals and analytical skills to leverage analysis first approach to minimize verification testing and in turn enhance realized savings of the projects.

D.            Leverage Design for Six Sigma tools like product design scorecard, P-diagram, DFMEA and DVP to for profitable, reliable and on time launch of the projects.

E.            Provide technical mentoring to team members in design and development of Clutch products and in turn build organizational capability.

F.            Lead technical reviews and act as a subject matter expert in identified area.

G.           Deploy VA PROLaunch / project management practices for project execution.

H.            Collaborate with cross functional team members to get their inputs to ensure quality and on time project deliverables to meet and exceed profit plan commitments.

Education:

 

EDUCATION:

 

•             Minimum education for this position is a Bachelor / Masters in Mechanical Engineering, with demonstrated experience in technical engineering organization.

•             10+ years of experience with multinational engineering organization

 

Desired:

•             Vehicle industry exposure and experience

•             Hands on knowledge of Value Engineering principles & its deployment

•             Hands on experience on providing technical leadership and mentoring to team memebrs

 

 

Special Skills:

•             Powertrain engineering experience. Good analytical skills in mechanical disciplines. In-depth knowledge of various competitor clutch products. Interact with global cross-functional and cross-cultural team. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to clearly communicate to internal/external customers and suppliers. Solid understanding of global clutch market and IP landscape
