Eaton’s Aerospace Division is currently seeking a Buyer to join our team. This position is based at our Grand Rapids, MI location.
The Buyer will be responsible for the following:
A. Purchase assigned commodities, ensuring quality, delivery and specification compliance at the lowest possible cost.
B. Work with commodity management group to source new suppliers, negotiate terms/conditions, develop commodity strategy, analyze trends, and expedite orders. Promote competitive bidding and evaluate quotations. Assure that purchase orders are awarded in a legal and ethical manner. Develop and improve long-term supplier relationships.
C. Notify vendors regarding print, specifications, delivery, and other requirements changes. Communicate delivery changes to affected departments. Measure and evaluate supplier performance.
D. Team building activities are required for the alignment of planning, supply chain management activities and implementation of strategic initiatives aligned with the Eaton Business System.
E. Coordinate all supplier related actions as required with other departments. Promote good communications between all functional areas and the outside business world.
F. Evaluate current and potential sources of supply to identify and prioritize areas requiring new sources of supply or performance improvement.
G. Arrange for disposal of surplus material as required.
H. Establish and maintain a continuing cost reduction program resulting in improved costs on sub-contracted commodities. Apply knowledge of root cause analysis, total cost analysis, the lean enterprise and Six Sigma tools to the development of a high performance supply base.
I. Assure that government mandated conditions are included in contracts/purchase orders; and that suppliers comply them with.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
Candidate must reside within 50 mile radius of Grand Rapids, MI.
Preferred Qualifications: (Not required to be qualified for the role)
APIC’s certification is also preferred.
Knowledge of government procurement regulations
Strong negotiation skills.
Human relations skills to communicate with supervisory and other Company personnel and supplier representatives through personal contact and telephone conversation, to select sources of supply, negotiate prices or prepare requests for bids, discuss and transmit requirements and specifications, obtain quotations on price and delivery, finalize purchase forms and contracts, and ascertain supplier ability to fulfill commitments.
Should have a working knowledge of FAR/DFAR U.S. Government procedures.
Should have basic PC skills and have working knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing software programs. processes as well as special processes.
Full knowledge of materials planning systems (MRP/ERP) requirements and order generation process logic.
Thorough understanding of Supply Chain Management operational concepts surrounding production planning, inventory control, purchasing, logistics, stockroom operations, and shipping/receiving.
