Job Description

Eaton’s Electrical Division is currently seeking and Electrical Engineer to join our team. This position is based in Raleigh, NC.
 
The Electrical Engineer is a member of our engineering team supporting the deployment of mission critical systems through their entire life cycle.  The Engineer continuously improves a product line's performance, reliability, quality, safety, and life cycle costs in addition to supporting inquiries related to the product line’s operation.  Eaton's Power Quality business offers a full portfolio of backup power and surge protection.  Our products and services "power the internet", by ensuring data centers large and small are always available, protecting their operations from electrical power disturbances.

  • You will monitor field performance data and identifies opportunities for quality improvements, value engineering and alternative market segments.
  • You will troubleshoot recurring functional issues preventing a product line from achieving stated quality goals.  Identifies root cause through engineering analysis and bench testing.
  • You will provide technical guidance and support for application engineers, sales engineers, and service engineers.
  • You will propose projects that improve a product line's performance, reliability, quality, safety, and life cycle costs. Seeks broad technical input, defines feasibility and executes their implementation.
  • You will processes engineering change notices. Ensures technical criteria are met and engineering change documentation is complete. Follows up changes through implementation phase.
  • You will learn the technical details of product operation and increasingly contributes to product line enhancements.  Disseminates learnings to others, in the spirit of continuous improvement benefitting the wider organization. Provides Voice of the Customer for new product development activities.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from an accredited educational institution.
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience on electrical/electronic product development, product sustaining engineering, application engineering or sales engineering.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without company sponsorship.
 
Position Criteria:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to self-motivate and self-manage. Ability to prioritize tasks in order to meet schedules and service level agreements. Ability to work both individually and in a team environment.
  • Effectively networks with others.  Actively helps others by bringing technical knowledge and critical thinking skills to production line and production test teams. Actively seeks input from others.
  • Comfortable using hand tools and electrical/electronic test equipment.  Ability to troubleshoot electrical/electronic assemblies down to the circuit board level
  • Passion to learn new things and continuing to develop professional skills with aims to progress through Eaton's multiple career options.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Design for Six Sigma concepts
  • Ability to understand and review C/C++ code in order to facilitate diagnosis of field events and issues
  • Exposure to product life cycle management systems and engineering change order systems.
  • Working knowledge of electrical schematic capture and 2D drafting tools.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing and production processes, safety agency standards, closed-loop corrective action process.
  • Three-phase UPS or power distribution design or application experience
