Eaton’s Lighting Division is currently seeking an Electrical Test Engineer to be part of our Syracuse NY team.

The primary function of this role is to test both prototype and production fixtures for existing and new products. The incumbent will study the specifications and examine the product to determine what data is needed and identify the actual test methods, materials, fixtures and equipment required. The incumbent will be ultimately responsible for all engineering details associated with the testing performed at this facility to fulfill customer obligations while maintaining the highest levels of safety.  The Test Engineer operates as an outside reference and resource to the design engineering team including responsibility for outside testing, compliance testing, design verification testing, reliability testing, and test beds.

Essential Functions:
  • Test industry leading interconnected lighting and control solutions.
  • Conduct test requirements and planning for New Product Development (NPD), including expanding testing capabilities in thermal, reliability, EMC and international certifications.
  • Write test scripts to support automated tests
  • Perform testing and analyze data to assure compliance to the established requirements. Generate detailed test reports. Includes testing for safety compliance (North America & International), environmental, thermal, structural and reliability.
  • Assemble and Build test fixtures to perform unit and system level testing.
  • Thoroughly and accurately document all test setup and results.
  • Provide input to ProLaunch process for new product design including all critical testing, manufacturing and quality functions.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by providing adequate precautions to tests in process. Design safety into every test and activity. Safety / 5S+ champion.
  • Takes ownership in identifying process improvements and gaps in test coverage of new and existing products and designs repeatable test methodologies to provide meaningful feedback for the continuous improvement of new and existing products

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 1 years of experience working in a lab environment.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
  • This position does not offer relocation.  Candidate must reside within 50 miles of Syracuse, NY.
Preferred Qualifications (Not required to be qualified for the job).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in an engineering role.
  • Experience in system or product testing with exposure to thermal, reliability, environmental, structural and safety tests.
  • Experience with industry standard electrical and lighting validation and verification testing
