Eaton's Corporate Research and Technology (CRT) team has an exciting and rewarding position of a Power Conversion Lead Engineer, located in our Menomonee Falls, WI location.

In this position, you will support research and technology development in emerging technology programs.  The position involves developing and testing innovative power conversion technologies and identifying market opportunities for the new technologies, supporting businesses to evaluate market studies and developing business cases.  You will also identify internal and external funding resources, support discussions with national lab and university leaders to be on top of the key technologies identified.  A key piece of this role is establishing customer relationships, presenting ideas and projects to Eaton business leaders and CRT leadership.

Essential Functions:
  • You will act as a technical leader and create emerging power conversion and power system solutions based on breakthrough technologies for industrial, automotive, truck, and aerospace applications
  • You will develop technology projects by supporting teams (local and remote resources) and working external technology resources (business divisions, universities, and customers)
  • You will advance state of the art power electronics, power systems, and power converter technologies as well as identify and develop commercialization opportunities with diverse Eaton businesses
  • You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural globally distributed teams, lead specific tasks within the scope of work, and provide updates to project manager
  • Identify, analyze, develop, and validate advanced technologies in the fields of power conversion and power systems
  • Lead and support global technology programs utilizing Eaton's technology development processes, including business reviews, technology reviews, and project reviews
  • Participate in technology strategy discussions with Eaton's businesses and support the development of technology road maps
  • Create project plans, and deliver results on budget and schedule
  • Engage with and manage stakeholder relationships - business divisions in the U.S. and globally
  • Lead projects with partners from national labs, universities, and other research institutes

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
 
  • PhD in an engineering discipline from an accredited university
  • Two years of experience in low and medium voltage power conversion and power systems engineering
  • Two years of demonstrated expertise in any of the following areas: motor drive technology, drive/converter topologies, high-power electronics; electric machines and controls; electrification of vehicles, energy storage and grid connected converters; alternative power generation and distribution
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Industry or related commercial experience
  • Experience with power distribution system design, analysis, and protection
  • Experience with C++, HDL, and/or other real-time control development software/firmware
  • Experience with circuit design, filtering, analog/digital conversion, sensor interfaces, control circuitry and architectures
