Eaton’s Vehicle Group has an opening for a:
Commodity Manager
location: Tczew, Poland / Bielsko-Biala, Poland / Turin, Italy
Primary function:
Manage the strategic coordination of worldwide sourcing and supplier quality activities, including developing commodity sourcing strategies, leading supplier selection and participating in development activities and establishing purchase contracts governing assigned commodities. Emphasis is on selection and management of vendors so as to provide Eaton with the highest levels of quality as required at the lowest landed cost while insuring adequate capacity, on-time delivery, and commitment to continuous improvement.  The scope includes supporting current products as well as new product development. Manage the commercial aspects of a specific supplier deck.
Essential functions:
  • Develop commodity strategy for required commodities: high Spend range & high complexity level per Commodity Evaluation Matrix .  This includes development of supplier classifications based upon standard rating process, five year road maps to successful execution of strategy, including capital required, cost out, inflation, currency and risk.
  • Evaluate social, economic, and governmental information to determine the risks and opportunities regarding global sourcing (i.e., tariffs, dumping duties, exchange rates, etc.).
  • Decide supplier selection for material/component requirements. Work with all other Departments to assure Eaton’s customer approval on a timely basis.
  • Complete negotiations with suppliers regarding price, terms, quality, tooling, etc.  Develop and negotiate supply agreements when needed.
  • Participate in the activities (i.e., PPAP, supplier approval process, specification/print development when necessary, trials, etc.) during supplier start-up. Coordinate cost estimating and design parameters for new projects and products.
  • Develop and maintain on-going ethical supplier relationships, which foster a desire to furnish new ideas, and promote cooperation with Eaton on an on-going basis.
  • Coordinate the exchange of technical information regarding product and product processing with adequate safeguards for confidentiality.
  • Negotiate resolution (as required) of Eaton claims (i.e., cost, time, rework, scrap, labor, sorting charges) with suppliers regarding non-conforming material.
  • Actively participate in teams working towards continuous process improvements, elimination of waste, simultaneous engineering, and advanced product quality planning.
  • Support the corporate sponsored IDEAS program and it’s associated activities and tools.
  • Develop productive relationships with others in Supply Chain Management, mentoring, teaching and training – leading role.
  • Comply with Eaton standardize SCM process and policies both locally and at the corporate level.


  • Bachelors Degree in Business or specialized degree in purchasing / logistics, Economics or Mechanics.
  • 5+ years of experience in supply chain management.
  • Knowledge and skills in MRP, JIT, Lean Mfg., Kan Ban, Vendor Managed Inventory.
  • Advanced knowledge of SCM processes.
  • Develop & Execute Commodity Strategy – individual leading commodity
  • Familiar with tools Purchase requisitions, Orders, RFQ, RFI, DSR, Invoice Approvals / Hold resolution
  • Contract Negotiating Skills.
  • Understanding of market and understanding of key financial metrics.
  • Strong Communication and Presentation Skills – interpersonal and communication skills are essential for dealing with all levels of internal and external Suppliers and Customers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers and Eaton Business Partners at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills
  • Provide cost out programs.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Must be self-motivated and engaged in the success of the organization.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office (Outlook, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Quality agreements.
  • Absolute integrity and adherence to Eaton ethics standards.
