Eaton India Innovation Center’s (EIIC)– Center for Intelligent Power has an opening for Lead Engineer position in Data Science. The Lead Engineer-Data Science will work primarily on solving engineering/business issues using data analytics methodologies. The incumbent will assemble information and use statistics & data mining techniques to find patterns in the data that drive product intelligence or cost out decisions for the company. The incumbent  will have the ability to work independently with cross-functional teams to drive the application of advanced statistical / data science techniques to solve engineering problems.
In this position the incumbent will be responsible to initiate and lead innovation programs based on advanced data analytics such as Data mining, Machine Learning, Virtual Sensing, Prognostics and Health Monitoring; identify market opportunities, evaluate and develop new technologies, develop business cases, lead Integrated Project teams, investigate internal/external funding opportunities, lead customer relationships, present ideas and projects to Eaton business leaders and external customers. Profound technical leadership and a potential for business acumen is required to be successful in this position.
Lead Engineer understands industry trends in machine learning, IoT, data mining & algorithms & identifies Eaton’s opportunities in response to the industry needs keeping in view organization’s vision & mission. He/ She will also be responsible to reach out to external bodies to fill these gaps as needed. The lead engineer should have the capability to coordinate with global program teams by working collaboratively with CRT as well as product engineering teams. He/She will be responsible for making compelling technology proposals, inserting these into product roadmaps to create a distinct advantage for Eaton’s products over competition. He/She will be responsible for leading deliverables to ensure its accuracy and co-ordinate with integrated project  teams. 


  • Organize & assemble information from diverse data sources in such a manner that the data aggregation is easily replicable.
  • Perform exploratory analytics on the data to understand the key trends and drivers
  • Proficiently identify and apply the appropriate data analytics algorithm that can used for the data aggregated (example: Unsupervised Learning: Clustering, factor analysis, association rule mining; Supervised Learning: Classification, Neural Nets, Support Vector Machines, Regression etc)
  • Report out results in a language that can be comprehended by the organization at large and drive decisions for the organization
  • Provide technical leadership for technology development
  • Collaborate with global experts, external partners and extended teams to enable technology development
  • Lead the development of advanced technology projects, co-ordinate with globally diverse cross-functional project teams effectively and deliver technology solutions
  • Provide hands-on solutions on critical projects;  provide technical mentoring on complex projects involving multiple components or systems for completeness and compatibility with customer objectives and standards
  • Identify, evaluate and transfer leading technologies that pertain to existing, as well as, potentially new product lines.
  • Identifies unique opportunities to develop new solution offering for Eaton business.
  • Act as an enabler for developing digital twins for key Eaton products
  • Strategizes new uses for data and its interaction with data design.
  • Scope out new projects, develop and execute project plans
  • Manage multiple projects and deliver results on time and with the requisite quality
  • Collaborate with global experts, external partners and extended teams to enable technology development
  • Strive to get internally and externally recognized in this area by continuously learning and developing new algorithms in the data science space.
  • Participate in internal forums within Eaton like ERGs and represent in external forums & professional bodies


  • Masters with 9-10 years’ experience with an experience of about 4-5 years in the area of Data Science, preferably in the Manufacturing Industry or a PhD with 5-6 years’ experience in the Industry
  • Programming experience (VBA, C, R, Python) and the passion to develop new algorithms.
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques both Supervised and Unsupervised  with specific emphasis on Clustering, Association rule mining, classification, regression, neural nets and support vector machines
  • Exposure to Statistical Packages like Minitab & Advanced Data Mining Tools like R/Python with an understanding of how data is stored and retrieved from various data sources is a must
  • Knowledge of SQL
  • Knowledge of working with the Big Data tool kit (HADOOP/ SPARK)
  • Ability to work with global teams to drive & communicate results appropriately.
  • Knowledge of reliability engineering methods
  • Experience of having used data analytics for cost out
  • Analytical ability and logical reasoning.
  • Problem solving, creativity, Technical learning and Process Management.
  • Foundational leadership skills along with an awareness of the latest trends in the area of data analytics.
  • Ability to challenge the status quo to drive data driven decisions.
  • Knowledge of Eaton products and its applications.
