Position Overview:
The Perth Distribution Centre (DC) Manager is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership of a high volume order fulfillment distribution center. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for the overall performance of the Warehouse, Modification Centre, the Returns Centre, and logistics and operations; including customer service, administration and information technology (IT). This position will ensure product receipt, storage, and order fulfillment operations through the optimization of resources and processes while achieving key safety, quality, cost, and engagement performance. By using continual process improvement tools (such as Lean and Six Sigma), the Distribution Centre Manager will lead employee initiatives to create and promote an environment where team members are involved, empowered, and committed to the success of the company.
Essential Functions:
 
  • Manages a staff of managers to ensure timely distribution of merchandise within the standards of budget, policies, procedures and quality to satisfy the requirements of the customers, sales operations and finance divisions.
  • Ensures the development of systems and procedures for operating and managing physical facilities, human resources, safety, equipment and products in a profitable manner. Plans, directs, and implements warehouse operations and administrative support to meet prescribed productivity and service goals. Operates in compliance with federal, provincial and local statutes.
  • Directs the operations of the warehouse management team to achieve prescribed objectives. Applies sound communication and motivational techniques, creates programs to supervise, motivate, counsel and when necessary discipline subordinates.
  • Ensures the creation of the necessary warehouse information systems to meet company objectives and facilitate the efficient operations of the warehouse. Remains knowledgeable regarding changes in process, hardware and software technology.
  • Assists in the establishment of customer service standards for all accounts and communicates these standards to all personnel. Assures that customer accounts receive the required level of operations and administrative support. Maintains appropriate contact with all accounts and responds to requests as required.
  • Develops and recommends an annual operating and capital budget. Develops and manages a system of controls to ensure that service levels and operational performance goals are met within prescribed cost, revenue and profit parameters. Assures that all accounts achieve predetermined profit standards.
  • Procures equipment and facilities required to assure efficient operation and meet company profit goals. Develops suitable programs for maintaining company standards MESH not limited to sanitation, maintenance, security, housekeeping, and safety of equipment and facilities in a manner that assures their most efficient and safe operation. Keep informed of relevant new technology and make recommendations as applicable.
  • Drives and supports EBS (Eaton Business System) processes, inclusive of Divisional metrics for the distribution center.
  • Leads a culture of “Zero Incidents” through MESH with the required Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety programs in compliance with federal, provincial, and/or local regulations. Ensures the compliance of safety policies, reports unsafe acts and hazards and maintains a clean and orderly work environment for all employees.
 

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma from an accredited institution, in Business, Operations, Supply Chain Management, or Manufacturing Management
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible management experience in a high volume multi-shift operation with a large employee population. 
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively in a multi-functional and highly matrixed organization. 
  • An ability to establish a work environment that reflects and operations on the principals of Eaton values of customer, integrity, respect, teamwork and commitment. 
  • Foster an environment of engagement and inclusion and team building for all associates. Act with advocacy, empathy, and accountability on behalf of the team. 
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and decision making skills with a proven ability to drive results. 
  • Ability to operate within tight deadlines with multiple priorities that are subject to frequent changes. 
  • Ability to recruit, develop, and retain a high performance team at all levels within the organization. 
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with key stakeholders to understand the business needs and then inspire, coach, and lead the team to meet or exceed these expectations. 
     

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 5 years of operations / distribution center supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Lean / Six Sigma experience required (with certification preferred). 
  • In depth knowledge of the material handling equipment options for distribution and optimization of the life and use of the equipment. 
  • In depth knowledge of the various storage mediums and configurations, as well as slotting and consolidation tools and operations, in order to maximize distribution location footprint. 
  • In depth knowledge of process flow and value stream mapping to drive optimization of people, tools, and resources. 
  • Experience with fully integrated and automated Warehouse Management Systems both for core process and slotting. 
  • Experience with Transportation Management Systems also a plus. 
  • An understanding of logistics and carrier performance to drive improvements in service to our customers and overall freight spend. 
  • Financial planning and forecasting skills, for budget oversight and to project results of improvement or risk in operations 
  • Experience leading an operation with light assembly a plus.
