Eaton’s Lighting Division is currently seeking a New Product Development Engineer to be part of our Aurora CO team.
The primary function of this role will be to design lighting fixtures that meet or exceed customer expectations, product performance and aesthetic benchmarks as established by our Marketing and leadership teams while also conforming to all regulatory requirements. The NPD Design Engineer will be responsible to translate these designs into a set of engineering drawings and work with the Marketing, Program management, procurement, and manufacturing teams leading to successful commercial launch of the programs.

Essential Functions:
  • Works with Eaton Product Engineers to evaluate initial product designs and recommend changes to facilitate manufacturing with a focus on those processes to be performed by both outside suppliers as well as internal manufacturing and assembly
  • Partners with purchasing and product engineering to develop drawings for purchased material vendors. Conceptualizes, develops and defines external manufacturing processes to be used. Drives material PPAP and long-term acceptance criteria jointly with the Quality Department
  • Prepares preliminary capital and operating cost estimates for new product concepts and changes in existing products by forecasting equipment, tooling, and gauging costs. Determines machine production rates and manning requirements to be used for successful supplier selection and negotiation as well as for internal processes to ensure that product cost and capacity requirements are met.
  • Works with potential suppliers and Eaton Manufacturing personnel to verify and optimize process efficiencies.
  • Develops a pipeline of advanced manufacturing processes and concepts parallel to the advanced product technology roadmap.
  • Drives and updates prototype PFMEA’s working with multi-functional teams.
  • Drives development and testing of new process manufacturing technologies.
  • Conceptualize, develop, and approve designs of special tools, machines, and gauges for manufacturing processes.
  • Assist in design, maintenance and interpretation of meaningful and accurate performance measurement systems to increase production efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Ability to understand molding, machining, sheet metal, & stamping design concepts and be able to interact with Design Engineers in technical discussions around these processes.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Manufacturing Technology from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a new product development or manufacturing role
  • Must have SolidWorks or equivalent 3D modeling software
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position.  Only candidates within a 50 mile radius of the work location will be considered
  • Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, and/or MBA from an accredited institution
  • 5 Years’ experience specializing in process conceptualization and equipment commissioning
  • Previous budget creation and cost analysis experience
  • DFSS BlackBelt or LEAN certified
Position Criteria
  • Ideal candidate has a good understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Comfortable with technology and has a strong working knowledge of MS office suite and SAP
  • Must be able to observe, evaluate, summarize and communicate effectively.
  • Must have an analytical and process-driven approach, with a high attention to detail
  • Requires excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • Strong drive for results is essential, with self-directed leadership, requiring minimal supervision & being proactive.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast paced, changing environment.
  • Must be able to identify and implement process improvements.
